Towing set up recommendations

I'm a new member and a rookie RVer with a question.
I have a 2015 Tiffin Open Road 32ft with V10 gas engine.
I want to add a tow bar and wring to tow my 2018 Jeep Cherokee. The Jeep does not have a wiring harness so I'm starting from the beginning.
Any recommendations on brands and set ups? Why?
Brands to avoid?
Thanks for your help

Here is a wiring harness from the rv to the jeep. I like roadmaster myself. Etrailer is a great place to look at and find model numbers for stuff.

Welcome to the forum ...and to RVing.

I too prefer Roadmaster components. Blue Ox and Demco are the other major brands of baseplates and tow bars. There is also NSA that makes a tow bar that is popular too. I don't think you really have to "avoid" using any of those brands.

So in addition to the electrical wiring for connecting the Cherokee to the motorhome, you'll need a tow bar and baseplate. Baseplates are the brackets that you'll want to install on your Cherokee that the tow bar attaches to. You'll also need a supplemental braking system and a breakaway switch/cable.

So to summarize, you'll need in addition to a tow bar:

* The wiring that connects the Cherokee to the motorhome so that the Cherokee's lighting will mimic that of the motorhome (like any trailer would have ...brake, tail, turn signal/emergency flashers).

* Baseplate to install on your Cherokee so you can connect the tow bar to it

* A supplemental braking system plus a breakaway for the Cherokee ...members here will be able to recommend and give advice to help you choose

Welcome to the Forum!

You didn't mention what type of Jeep Cherokee you have. Note that only those with the "AD-II" transmissions like the Trailhawk version are flat towable. They are the only ones that can be put into full neutral without causing damage to the transmission.

Search for Cherokee here on the forum to see other posts about this.

Good luck!

+1 for eTrailer. Whether you buy the towing components from them or not, their site is a great resource to look at/learn about the various components. After you've considered the various alternatives, you can begin shopping for what you want. As others have said, there are three or four major manufacturers and I think you can choose any of them.

In terms of tow bars/baseplates the blue ox, roadmaster and NSA Ready Brute are all good options. You'll need a supplemental braking system, the NSA tow bar has a built in inertia brake or you can go with a brake buddy type setup. I would most definitely get some sort of Toad protector as the mudflaps on the back of coaches can do more harm to your Toad than good. I've used Protect-a-Tow for years and love it!! Good luck with everything and safe travels.
