Trailer hitch rating

My trailer hitch doesn’t say what class it is. Says 5000 lb. GTW and 500 lb.tongue. Is this enough to flat tow my 2017 Jeep Cherokee's at 4000 lb. curb weight?

Yes, that's sufficient capacity to tow your Cherokee. There is almost no tongue weight with a towbar, maybe 50lbs or so depending on the brand and the 4000lb weight is well within limits.

Yes, as long as you do not have the Cherokee loaded up with a bunch of stuff to make it weigh more than 5000#.

That should be perfectly fine, as LT Dan said flat towing has almost no tongue weight. Make sure not to exceed your GCWR though.
