Trailer Toad
Hello all
Does anyone have any experience with a "Trailer Toad"? I am looking at pulling a 24' enclosed trailer which is at the top end for my receiver. I would like to put my Wrangler and my Harley in an enclosed trailer and the Trailer Toad looks to be a good option.
My plan is to beef up my 7500# hitch mounting points appropriately per Spartans suggestion (explained later in another post) so that my coach will handle the "shear" load. I would use the Trailer Toad to minimize the weight on the coach receiver.
I am looking for some feedback from those of you who have used the Trailer Toad device?
Thanks
Steve

Well if you can safely pull it the other problem will be where to park it when you settle in for a while. Dollys are bad enough but a large trailer will often be a game changer.

I regularry pull a 24 foot cargo trailer with our toy car (toyota echo) and either my motorcycle or a couple of antique Cushman's. We know where we are going and what the accommodations are for the trailer. Id I have to disconnect I don' find it to difficult. Like the fact that what is in the trailer is safe and out of the elements. I hate tow dollies and have a small trailer i built for our car when we don't take the cargo trailer.

I also tow with a big trailer behind our coach.. 29' inside.. we have 2 motorcycles or a Can Am Spyder as well as a Escape or a sports car for vehicles inside.. and ewe have room for other toys inside including bikes, kayaks and more.. I wanted safe inside storage, choice of toys and have not had an issue with the combo as long as you plan a bit.. most places offer a drop location to leave the trailer if a site or pull thru will not handle it. The benefit of the clean inside storage is hard to beat. Arguments against the size probably have not simply planned a tiny bit to actually make the trips easy. I would not hesitate to pull the trailer.

Steve,
I personally have not used one but, this may interest you. It's a form of what you're thinking about. We used to carry our 900 lb. 2008 Honda GL 1800 Goldwing on the rear of our '04 Itasca Horizon, on a Hydralift and, tow our '04 Jeep Rubicon behind it. That was one slick setup. It worked flawlessly. But, after about 8,000 miles of doing things that way, we changed our "M.O.".
We now haul our Wing on a Rampage lift, in the back of our '11 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4. But, there are many trips where we'd like our newer Jeep, a '15 Jeep JKUR along with having the bike. So, we too are looking at maybe an aluminum flat bed trailer or, an enclosed version that will haul both the bike and the Jeep. Not sure of our outcome just yet.

Trailer Toad
Thanks "Fire Up" for the good information.
The Trailer Toad I am looking at looks just like what is pictured under the 5er except it has a ball mount. As far as storage for the trailer we have that figured out. No problem there as well as along the travel route. What I was really looking for is how well the Trailer Toad worked. It looks like it is working well in the picture I see. I am really close to pulling the trigger on it but I wish I could hear from a few real users with some real road miles. If and when I do get one I will post my experiences here hopefully to help the next guy.
Thanks
Steve

I have a TrailerToad, have not used it in a few years, originally purchased for my previous MH that only had a 5K lbs tow limit. Since my current rig has a 10K lbs tow limit, my TrailerToad has just been sitting in my shop.
These things are really great, and highly recommend them. Basically it takes all the weight off your rig. I am surprised more people don't use them, especially all these people towing way to big RV's for their 1/2 ton F150's.
The beauty of theses, it takes only a min to swap it from tow mode to back up mode, then you can back up a trailer like normal. They only add about 3 ft to your overall length, but they also give you a nice articulation point between your rig and trailer.
Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions.

Steve, forgot to include in my previous post, if you get a TrailerToad, no need to "Beef UP" your current rig. Its kind of hard to explain, but once you use one it will all make sense.

What was the outcome?
Did you buy it? How did it work?
