trouble shoot brake controller

On a long trip right rear trailer brake engaged. other three did not. smoked the brake lining melted the grease and lost the bearing. trucker motioned us over fortunate no fire. The controller was blinking about 50% power after coming to a complete stop. Where do I start troubling shooting?

Only one wheel , overheated of four , 99% sure the problem was in that wheel .
The grease seal could have been leaking soaking the linings and hanging the shoes up.

If all four brakes fried , that's a different matter.

If you want any info on possible problems with your controller , that's not covered in your manual , post the make and model of the controller.

Thanks I did not think of that possibility. fairly sure it was not the controller as all the brakes should have engaged. Only thing I could come up with was that maybe it was an adjustment problem. I may never know as it looks as if everything is fried.
