Unlocking the steering wheel????

We are on our way to Florida, towing our Ford F150. Wondering if anyone know how to unlock the steering wheel, and keep it unlocked so that we still have tires when we get there. Is there a way to do this without killing the battery???

Thanks all

On my '07 Ford Ranger the first ignition click unlocks the steering but does not turn on anything, the second click turns on ignition. I use the first position for towing.

On my Jeep the key in the first unlocked position. If you're running a braking sys like Brake Buddy, I use a 12 volt jumper box to power the AUX brake sys.

Start the engine every night and let it run is another option.

You would have to leave the key in acc.postion and turn all draws off. I WOULD NOT PULL THE BATTERY CABLES AS YOU WILL LOSS ALL THE COMPUTER INFO. NOT GOOD. I belive most cars and trucks have a setup procedure for towing. There is a F150 Ford Forum where you may get some help on line if you search it sorry as I have been on it but don't remember the address. Good luck and have a great time.

Lori,

Does your owner's manual have a section on recreational towing? That's where I found the info for what I needed to do to tow our Jeep 4 down. Took me forever to find it, though. Now I have that page dog earred and photocopied the info and put it in the RV.
