US Gear Tow Brake for 2012 Buick LaCrosse Advice Needed

I just purchased a US Gear Unified Tow Brake system for my 2012 Buick LaCrosse. I started out by seeing where I could mount the solenoid. I got the passenger carpeting pulled back. But under the carpeting, there is a rubber mat that looks like it is one inch thick and goes all the way up the firewall.

After seeing this, I thought I would check the driver's side to see where I could mount the pulley. Again, it looks like a one inch thick rubber mat that goes up the firewall and is formed around where the steering column goes through the firewall. I don't even know where I would mount the pulley since the steering column is right behind the brake pedal.

Has any one installed a Unified Tow Brake on a LaCrosse or similar newer car? Where did you mount the solenoid? Where did you mount the pulley? Did you cut through the rubber mat to screw to firewall?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
