Thinking about getting a new toad. Looking at Wanglers, but then checked auto trader for Broncos. I could not believe how many used one there are with super low mileage. One had 93 miles on it. Others with 200, 700, 1000, 1400 miles. What gives? You think they pre-ordered and got major remorse when they took delivery? There are 60 within 75 miles of the zip i put in.

Lots of dealers use them as demos when they first came out.
Our dealer had 5 demos the first 6 months.

I just went to auto trader and checked used Broncos. I got one in 200 miles and five with in 500 miles, all at dealers. Maybe they let a salesman drive them so they could call them used.

I didn’t even look at pricing so i went back. there is a used Badlands. Only 30k over MSRP. Yikes.

THAT is why you are seeing them on the market.

Dealerships doing it also. I enquired about a “demo” Bronco at a small dealership. Because it was considered “used”, (about 6,000 miles) they were allowed to set the price at market value. Which I estimate to be about 15-20k over MSRP. According to the salesman, it was in the hands of a customer, who had ordered a new Raptor, long enough to justify the “used” status.

I plan to order one as soon as they start taking orders again. The Ford dealerships are supposedly not allowed to sell new vehicles over MSRP anymore without repercussions from corporate, nor falsify customer orders just to get them on the lot to sell as used.

As far as I know mileage has no bearing on when a vehicle is called "used" - it's all based on paperwork. If a vehicle has been titled with the state's DMV then it is a used vehicle. A vehicle can sit on a dealer's lot for years, racking up "test drive" miles, and it remains a "new" vehicle until the dealer has a reason to send the registration paperwork in to title the vehicle. Until then it only has a Manufacturer's Statement of Origin (MSO) and not a title.

Broncos are high demand and hard to get units so I doubt they're using them as demos, aside from maybe the dealership owner. Pre covid if you were below your monthly sales target by a 3-4 units you would register 3-4 units off the lot as service loaners, demos etc. Then just sell them as used cars. Not an easy task, as they lose all the new incentives and get stuck with a general used car finance rate, which is what now, 7%?

Any used Bronco with little mileage is just an owner trying to make a quick buck and likely has another on order already. Same story with C8 vettes.

If its a legit dealer unit then its a pompous sales manager / GM using it as their own before also selling it for full pop or even more. But remember, if financing, its with the high used car rate - not the 1.9% or whatever Ford is offering for new cars.

Background- I had an oil leak on my 2015 F150 while it was under warranty. They tried to fix it, but it still leaked, I complained to Ford corporate, they had me take it back in and they fixed it properly... no leak, Ford gave me a 3 yr extended service plan as a result of my trouble.
About 6 months ago the tranny pump that operates on the auto start/stop mode started to fail. It was covered by the above extended service plan. I took it into the dealer. I told them I needed a loaner. They went out in the lot and got me a brand new, zero mile, F150. They had to scrape the window sticker off it and put plates on it.
So, when I returned it a few days later when my repair was done, it had about 250 miles on it. Maybe that's what you've seen with the Bronco's

Dealers were getting a lot of flack for charging way over MSRP. They have started buying / trading from other dealers out of state and then listing the brand new units as used and asking 10-20,000 over the original MSRP. We have a semi-local dealer with 5 of them all listed as "Used", all with outrageous markups. I'm pretty sure it's just a tactic to stay off of Ford's radar. I've wanted one since they were confirmed as flat-towable , but not paying these markups.
