"Vault" Wheel Bearings on Acme Eze-Tow Dolly

I have an Acme Eze Tow that I no longer use as we now tow a toad four down. I'm getting it ready to sell, but it has a leaking outer wheel bearing seal on the right side. The left side is not leaking, but the black cap on the Vault bearings is not protruding, which I understand to mean that it also is low on grease.

My question is how to I add grease to these bearings? Is there a grease fitting behind the black plastic cap? I understand that these use a special grease that thins as it gets warm. Anywhere to get that other than the manufacturer?

For the side that is visibly leaking, it's appears to be only on the outside of the wheel. I was looking at an assembly diagram and it appears that the outer seal is just an o-ring, so hopefully I can get away with just replacing that?

Honestly, these bearings seem to be more trouble than they're worth. I'm not sure why Acme felt the need to use pressurized bearings on anything other than a boat trailer, but that's another story.

I have one sitting in my yard as I now flat tow as well. I had one of those caps go AWOL on a trip about 4 years ago. Dexter has a repair kit which includes the caps, o rings, a cartridge of grease, a tool (actually a PVC plumbing fitting) to seat the cap, a zerk, and red locktite. The process is to remove the cap, temporarily install the zerk and grease the spindle while rotating the wheel. You then fill the inside of the cap with grease and then seat the cap. You also apply apply red locktite to the flange of the cap prior to seating.

Simple job took about 15 minutes sitting in a campground.

I was not able to source the grease from anyone including Dexter dealers. Dexter was good about the kit, they provided it overnight at no cost including the overnight shipping.

Great info, Steve, thanks! But wow, the prices I see for that kit are =/- $200!! For freaking wheel bearing seals and grease!!! They have to be kidding. I was only going to ask $500-600 for the whole dolly, lol.

My dolly is nine years old and I'm the second owner, so I'm pretty sure I can forget about any sort of warranty.

The hub, bearings and rear double lip seal seem to be standard parts available from any trailer supply store. They must be pretty proud of that cap. I see where people with boat trailers have replaced it with a Bearing Buddy cap. In any case, after seeing the instructions I started doing Google searches and see where people supposedly "in the know" have said you can reuse the Vault caps several times (though Dexter says not to) and just use a piece of PVC pipe to put them back on. Looks like all I'll need is the right size o-ring and their special grease. Some have said Lucas red will work, but I'd rather not take the chance.

EDIT: I see the Vault hybrid grease on Amazon for $39.99

That price is absurd. Yes you can reuse the caps according to a tech I exchanged emails with back when I had the issue. His only advise was to be sure to use locktite when reinstalling. You definitely want the factory it is completely different in viscosity than Lucas Red. When warm it is very runny like a heavy oil. I believe the tool was just an 1-1/2 PVC coupling or pipe to threaded fitting. Its buried out in my shed I can dig it out if you need more info.
