VW Towing

I am looking at purchasing a 1974 Classic VW Bug aka Beetle. I see it is recommended for flat tow. The VW tow bar looks like a good option but once we get to a campground and want to drive the car, does the tow bar stay on and if so, how do you keep it up? I am just a confused old lady?

If it's a Super Beetle the base plate bolts to the udercarriage and stays in place. You remove to pins, one on each side of the tow bar and completely remove the tow bar. If it's a non Super Beetle, the tow bar is pinned to the front axle beams. You again have to remove the pins and the whole tow bar comes loose from the car. In either case, you'll likely have to lay on the ground to attach and detach the tow bar.
