Why would you need a battery disconnect if you have a charge line?

You will need to install a battery disconnect. I did it myself, if I can anyone can.

It has nothing to do with the battery, it's the electronic steering in the Colorado. There are many discussions on this forum about it, search, I went through this same thing when I got mine in Feb. The owners manual says disconnect the battery during the tow setup. I don't plan to prove the checklist right or wrong. The RM-766 is not hard to install and is easy to use. I'm at ease having done it as I just don't need surprises with vehicles.

Born2RV,
I hope you don't mind that I leach onto your thread. I hate to start a whole separate thread. I am also working on setting up my 2015 Colorado Ext Cab as a Toad. I'm planning on going with the Blue Ox base plate and the Aventa LX tow bar.

The question for the forum how did others setup their toad lighting on the truck? I'm not real keen on the idea of drilling a hole into my tail lights so I'm leaning towards a harness using the Diode connectors. I'm open to comments pro and con and also where you tied the harness into the trucks system? Hopefully the OP will find this info usefull as well.
Thanks
Steve

I currently have the 2016 canyon which I tow. I connect a line to the canyon battery directly and then to my patriot brake controller. I also did this with my Sonic in the past. Never had any problem or battery drain.

Shortly after writing my post in 7/4 I was on my Offer Up app and found the steal of a lifetime. Someone had posted a practically new Blue Ox tow bar and a Brake Buddy Vantage for $300. Turns out that it was used by a couple who bought a MH and had their CRV transformed into a toad. Went on the road once, didn't like it and sold everything. They sold their CRV to their daughter which included all of the towing equipment and she had no need for the Blue Ox setup. I called Blue Ox to verify the towing capacity of that particular tow bar and was told it could handle up to 10k lbs. My new Colorado only weighs 4600 lbs with 3/4 full gas tank and me in it.
I hired a local truck shop to install and just picked my truck back up this afternoon. They did a beautiful and professional job. I'm one happy camper.
We are heading out of town at the end of the month and I can't wait to try it out.
