Towing 4-Wheels Down the Easy Way

We presently tow a 2017 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. We simply disengage the transmission, hitch up to our RV, connect our InvisiBrake and "Go"! No need to disconnect the battery or do anything else! Prior to Trailhawk we had a 2008 Jeep Liberty which "followed" us for almost 65,000 miles across the US and Canada.

What Do You Tow 4 Down?

2010 Honda FIT. 4-doors, well within 5K hitch weight limit, comfortable for 4-adults, 2-golf bags, ladies packages from day at the outlets. Rides better than a Jeep unless you go off-road. Very pleased with our choice.

We tow a 2016 Kia Soul behind our 34' Newmar Ventana LE. We use a Road Master tow kit and are thrilled with the set up. You never notice that the toad is there (unless you are dopey and get yourself stuck someplace where you need to back up ;-)

The Soul does not run up the odometer while towed and with the seats down has room for my wife and I as well as our 3 dogs. I think we are going to add a rooftop baggage carrier though for backpacks when we are hiking though and give the pooches a little more room to spread out after a long day in the mountains :-)

Tow 4 down

Honda CRVs up to and including 2014 are great. We tow a Honda CRV 2014 ourselves. In 2015 they changed the transmission so you can no longer flat tow the CRV (a big disappointment to us.)

0 to 80,000 miles a GEO METRO LSI CONVERTIBLE two seater. Ultra light weight. (it became to low for my wife)
80,000 to 175,000 miles a CHEVY SPARK four door and four seater. Very light weight.
Both were standard shift and worked well with NSA (Night Shift Auto) simple surge brake adapter.

We started with a 2003 GMC Yukon 4x4 and now have a 2006 Jeep Liberty limited. Blue Ox for both. The Yukon was very easy and didn’t require any modifications. We got the Jeep for a bargain and couldn’t resist. The 1000 lbs. weight difference has been nice but we are cramped in the Jeep. But overall it’s a fun little around town suv. You do need to leave the key in on the first click to keep the steering wheel unlocked.

We just found a 2006 Lexus gx470 that we had full intentions of flat towing but now that we have it, we are to scared to chance it!! It’s just to clean!
