What Grand Cherokee are you towing?

The significant other wants a Grand Cherokee. We want to get a model we can flat tow, but the Jeep website with its numerous models of Grand Cherokee is pretty confusing. Who has what that you're flat towing? We're talking new, not previous model years. Thanks in advance.

Any GC with Quadratrack 1 or 2 transmission can be flat towed. That is to say any that can be put in 1 low gear. They run throughout the model range. We have a 19 GC Limited.

I believe you need to make sure there is a neutral position in the transfer case same as I do in a Ram truck.

Must be quad 2. Limited and higher model. We tow 2020 Summit.
Love it having had it for 1 year now. First time at dealer this week for oil change.

Basically any Jeep that has a neutral position for the transfer case.. You put the transmission in neutral, transfer case in neutral, then check transmission by putting it in drive. If you don't move you're good. Then put transmission in park.

2015 Grand Cherokee Limited, Trail Rated badge on fenders, neutral "N" on console behind shifter. There is a spot to place a pen point to put the transfer case in to neutral.

What ever model you are looking at, down load the manual for that year and read how to put the transfer case into neutral for flat towing. If it will go into neutral you will know.

In my area I had to travel to find one I could tow. Most dealers will not know what you are talking about. Do not trust them.

Good luck.

Thanks all for the input. We visited the dealer yesterday and I leave the decision up to her.

For safety, you should negotiate the the installation of the anti wobble harness #82216418AA in order to power the EPS. It was designed to eliminate the front end wobble while being towed.

Yes! We just had our 2019 GC Trailhawk outfitted for BlueOx Avail system and 5 minutes away from dealership we got the infamous "death wobble". It's very scary! We were relieved that we were only going as slow as we were. Could have been catastrophic. Dealer was unaware of this rather well-known issue, so now the adapter cable is on order. Please familiarize yourself on this phenomenon. As a sidebar, we LOVE the Trailhawk!

We just purchased a 2021 Grand Cherokee Summit and had the dealer install the above mentioned harness. We haven’t gotten the tow equipment installed yet, but will include a 12v. tag line to keep the battery charged. Can’t wait to tow it!

What Grand Cherokee are you towing

I have been flat towing a “trail rated” 2018 GC Trailhawk for 15k miles. The transfer case can be put in neutral. Blue Ox tow bar and blue ox base plate. All is well. I will definitely get another AWD GC but they seem to be a diminishing model.

We have a 2018 Trailhawk model. Flat towed over 36,000 miles without issue using a Blue Ox bar and an Air Force 1 braking system behind our RED. Note it weighs over 5,000 pounds, so only suitable for bigger MHs. We love it. It has all the goodies for comfortable travel, and yet it is suitable for many Class II 4WD roads (though we prefer Class I roads). Super easy to put into neutral.
