Sometimes kayaks inside and sometimes bikes on the back. No mods except for the ability to tow it 4-down.

We have 2 Toads

1. A modified TrailBlazer lifted a couple of inches and a little bigger tires for when we head west.

2. A 2012 Ford Explorer Limited for heading south snowbirding

We like to use SUV's for the fact you can load a lot of junk both in and out ( on the roof ) and still haul 4 large people if needed.

Happy Trails

We don't normally carry anything in the roads, and a couple Kayaks on top of the Cherokee or in the bed of the pickup.

Chevy Malibu: Carry a folding bike on the back seat when on the road. In the trunk, I keep a tool box, Brake Buddy, a battery box with tow bar stuff (cables, locks, etc.), roll of shop towels and few odds and ends. No special mods to Malibu other than what was required for setting up for towing.

The top of my TOAD has a 14 ft aluminum boat on a semi-automatic boat loader, and all the boating accessories including an electric start 9.9HP four stroke fuel injected outboard are inside. There is also two bikes in a rack on the back.
