Which kit to wire 2020 Escape Hybrid tail lights?

Which kit did you use to wire the tail lights on your 2020 Escape Hybrid?

DW is planning to purchase a 2020 Escape Hybrid AWD Titanium in the next couple of weeks. I've been reading about this vehicle on here, but most of the discussions have revolved around battery drain during tow.

Have been looking at the Road Master & Blue Ox base plates, but haven't decided which one we will purchase. Have been happy with the Demco Tabless on my Jeep, but they do not offer one for Escape Hybrid.

If there is space around behind the tail light housings, consider installing and wiring separate bulbs. That way you don't have to mess with the cars wiring at all. Did that on my pickup. Its been working well for 16 years.

We think alike, I did that on my Jeep J'K. I'll look at it once we get it to see if it has room.

I installed the kit RM-152 “Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit” and the “RM-156-25 Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit”. However, I haven’t towed with it yet. I anticipate that I’ll also need to install the brake light relay kit, “RM-88400”.

I appreciate the time you took with this reply.
Thank you,

No problem Ken. I’ve learned a lot form these type of forums. Took the pictures so I could share and maybe help someone else. Good luck with your install. Etrailer.com can help with the parts.

We have decided to use an expensive wireless system to provide tow lights behind DW's 2020 Escape Titanium Hybrid.

BTW, we picked up DW's car yesterday, and DW is very happy with it. I must confess, this is a very nice car. I will start following the Bronco as it matures, because it might replace my Jeep JK in a couple of years.

Ordered this wireless tow bar light, which only requires 12vdc for light on back of toad. https://www.rvupgradestore.com/32-Wi...-p/55-5458.htm

Installing 2" receiver hitch on back of her toad, and will use this rear step to support the light bar instead of using the magnets to attach to roof. https://www.etrailer.com/p-ST12.html

Installed these today:

Wireless tow bar light, which does require 12vdc for light on back of toad. https://www.rvupgradestore.com/32-Wi...-p/55-5458.htm

2" receiver hitch, and using this rear step to support the light bar instead of using the magnets to attach to roof. https://www.etrailer.com/p-ST12.html

Looks good!

I do have a couple of questions about your setup. Isn't the turn signals low for good sight and ok for law enforcement?
It looks like you have to plug it into a 12v outlet. You don't have to disconnect the battery on the Escape?

I'm not sure how low is too low, but I do have a 4" riser I'm considering using on the hitch. It seems to high to try placing it on the roof, plus it would have to be forward of the spoiler.

Yes, it plugs into 12v socket inside Escape. Escape 12v accessory battery is really small, so I'm replacing it this weekend with a larger battery. The battery is under spare tire, and I'm wiring two sockets directly to it, one for this light, and one for RVI3 brake controller.

I've seen several posts concerning the Escape Hybrid small factory 12 volt flooded H4 battery discharging while towing. It is only 45 AH, which isn't very much. I replaced it today with an EverStart Platinum AGM which has 70 AH.

https://www.walmart.com/ip/EverStart...M2I0&sharedid=

The battery area under spare tire is designed to hold this larger H6 battery, and even includes a threaded hole for the battery hold down mount in the correct location to hold this battery in place.

Also added a couple 12v sockets, one for the wireless brake lights, and one for our RVI-3 brake, both wired directly to the battery.

Spare

Tripntx, does the Titanium come with the spare tire or did you have to order that? My SE does not come with a spare.

Spare tire is part of the titanium package.

I do not believe I'll need a charge line from MH to toad with the larger AH battery I installed above.

Yesterday we pulled the toad for six hours. Beginning voltage was 12.56v.
Battery was powering RVi3, and wireless TowMate lights.
Ending voltage was 12.3v.
