Which tow dolly do I need?

We have a 2008 Smart Car we want to take with us when traveling. I know there are some who use a tow dolly with their Smart Car, towing backwards. I need a tow dolly that a SC will fit and have removable ramps due too short wheel base of vehicle. The reason I want to tow with tow dolly is occasionally the grandchildren travel with us and on those occasions we would take our Rav-4. Any suggestions as to which tow dolly I should choose? Thanks
Rick

I don't think you can dolly tow a smart car...it seems I always see them on trailers. Possibly because the wheel base is so short.

You will get all kinds of answers. Brand X is better than brand Y because it swivels or has bigger tires. I use an Acme Eze Tow, it has removable ramps and tows my Nissan Juke just fine. I did add a wheel on the front to make it easier to move around. Why do you need to tow a Smart car backwards?

Smart cars are rear wheel drive.

Two dollys with removable ramps come to mind.

The American Tow Dolly and the Acme tow Dolly.

You can't use the Acme dolly towing backwards, because you need to unlock the steering, so I would suggest you look at the American.

The distance between the wheels from inside passenger side tire to inside driver side tire is 47". Are the location where the tires sit have enough room?

Why would you need to unlock steering?

Because the Acme has no mechanism for steering around corners. All other dollys have a swivel pan or steering wheels.

Acme depends on the steering tires of the car to turn while going around corners.
