Wrangler change oil message

I have a 2008 Jeep Wrangler that I set up as a toad this weekend. This model has steering wheel lock so you have to disconnect the battery and turn the key on. After a test run I unhooked the Jeep and reconnected the battery. Then the “change oil” message came on. The oil was changed at the dealer a month ago. Any ideas out there about this?

you should be running power to the Jeep and leave the battery connected... the 12 vdc supply off of a common 7 pin connector will supply power to the vehicle and keep the battery charged...

Most Dodge vehicles us a formula to trip the "change oil message" it might not be by miles but 2 or 3 different sensors working together to trip the alarm... with that said, I can only assume that when you disconnected the battery the engine ECM saw a change in what it reads when the power came back on....

Was it on when you brought it in for the last oil change ?

It's possible that the dealer didn't reset the reminder after changing the oil.

Reset it and try again.

How would you wire that? Directly to the positive of the battery?

Doesn't mean they didn't reset the OLM. Changing the oil and resetting the OLM are two different things. I would reset and see what happens next time. Wouldn't be the first time the dealer didn't do a reset, which is a simple process through the system settings easily accessible to the owner.

Verify the MH end of the 12V is fused or has a circuit breaker. If not, install one at that end.

(You can also see if it is an "ignition on" source - or if it's 12VDC all the time. If it is 12VDC all the time you will want to disconnect the umbilical cord when you pull over for the night so the toad can't possibly drain the MH batteries.)

At the toad end - under the hood, you will want to install a 20 Amp circuit breaker so that any short at the toad end won't cause an over current drain.

Following the circuit breaker (or before it, if you wish) you'll want a diode (20 Amp pretty much the same as a brake light diode but they have them at e-trailer for a single parking light input and output). The diode will prevent the MH from draining the toad battery since it only allows current to flow in one direction.

From the diode you can go directly to the battery + terminal.

Or, you can google fore a charge kits from amazon or ebay - such as a schumacher that is self-contained and ready to connect.
