The Stay & Play isn't "wrong", but the AF1 would have been a more optimal (and more expensive) choice by taking advantage of your coach air brake system. To be more clear, The S&P Duo can be used with
any coach brake system, but the AF1 can be used
only with air brakes.
S&P Duo doesn't apply braking unless the coach is decelerating (slowing)
and the coach brake lights are on. Yes, some coaches activate the brake lights when the exhaust or engine brake is engaged. So if that is the source of the braking and the coach is actually slowing, then a proportional amount of braking is applied at the toad. That's no different than if you were driving the toad down a hill, right? You would lightly apply braking to hold the speed down.
Duo is not the old style told brake system with a pendulum that activates full braking on any downhill, nor is it the Progressive type system that increases toad braking the longer it remains engaged. It uses a solid state chip to measure the amount of deceleration and the braking is always proportional to the rate the coach is slowing.
