Some GMs use the starter positive terminal as a juntion for cab feed. Check for a tight cable there and the check the ground from the battery to the chassis.

Info on vehicle would help. Also, are headlights the only issue? Everything/anything working or not?

Why did you install a new battery?

Install the new battery because of the power issue I thought the battery I had was no good but obviously there is a loose connection or something between the ignition and battery

Your positive cable may have 2 cables, a large one to the starter and a second one to the cab power. Check that.

there are so many different type of setup

with a multimeter read the battery voltage should be 12.5 or so, follow the cables from the battery and see where they go, if it has a solenoid check it with the key in the on position and see if you have power on both sides in reference to ground. Have you checked to see if you have a good ground with your multimeter? Does it have dual battery switch, check voltage there. Good luck

Many GM chassis of your vintage used fusible links and you may have a burned one. As twinboat referred to the additional wiring at the starter solenoid. Many of those "wires" are actually fusible links, fuses. You can tell them by the thicker insulation and a formed butt connection to regular wire about 6 inches from starter. If you wiggle and pull slightly on the fuse link you may find it has melted inside the insulation. Auto parts stores sell replacement fusible links. They are sized by amperage, just like fuses. Your original links should be marked with amperage rating.

No dash lights or starter

Disconnect both battery cables and then reconnect.

Ok, power issue fixed but when I turn the key over I hear what sounds like the starter clicking but motor does not crank! Any thoughts?

Have you measured the battery voltage?
