2005 Coachman Freedom Generator problem

This past weekend I accidentally tried staring my Generac generator with the A/C turned on. When the generator started to turn over it immediately shut down. Now it primes, but the starter does not come on at all. The generator fuse is good as well as the circuit breakers and other fuses. Is there safeguard somewhere that I can toggle or did I try the starter?

Starter is 3 years old and generator only has 190+ hours. Generator and A/C were working fine before this incident.

Any help would be great!

Thanks,

Ron

No interlock or anything else.

The generator can be started with the AC running. The generator engine starts and runs for 30 seconds before the transfer switch changes over from shore power to generator power. Only then would the AC fault out until it cooled.

You probably have a battery cable issue. The light load of the fuel pump doesn't cause the dirty connection to break the circuit. When the starter tries to turn, it breaks the bad connection.

Fast test is to meter the battery volts at the generator solenoid cable. Hit the start switch and see if it drops below 10 volts. That means a bad connection. If it stays above 10 volts, that's a jambed starter.
