About to pull the trigger on a 2008 Phoenix Cruiser E450

Hi,

We are selling\trading our 38ft 2008 Itasca Latitude rear engine gasser for a 2008 Phoenix Cruiser 2900 (30ft and two slides) E450 that's for sale locally.

I am in contact with Phoenix Cruiser to get info on the unit.

On my test drive I will bring it to the commercial truck place that serviced both my class A's and trust 100% to have it checked out. They will allow me to inspect the underneath when its up on the ramp.

The coach has 51000 miles and tires are all 2019.

I am waiting to find out the Occ, will be towing a 4700lb Wrangler.

It will need some updating inside.

What do folks think ? I appreciate any advice of info.

Thanks,

Great choice! Great year! But to be honest, there are no bad years.
Being a 2008, you have the best slide-out mechanisms ever made, and you have the whole house Tripp-Lite inverter/converter combo unit. I can help you through many questions. I made some changes with our PC that will also apply to your PC with regards to general enhancements. PM me so we can email direct.

I see you also have the 2008 E450 chassis which has more OCCC than previous Ford model years. You will NOT have any trouble towing your Wrangler in that regards.

Get on the Phoenix Forum ASAP. CLICK HERE to get there.

We ordered our PC new in 2007 and still own it today. We hope to keep it at least another 20 years, hopefully longer yet until we are too old, unsafe drivers. CLICK HERE to see many pictures of our 2007 model 2350 that measures 23'-8" end-to-end. We tow a 2006 Jeep Liberty 4x4 that weights 4300 pounds.

Check the exhaust manifold studs, especially the rear where the weight of the exhaust pipe hangs.

Congrats. I have a 2008 PC 2350 which looks just like Ron's except I have a slide and mine sits out in the open in Nevada. Good luck with the 4700lb jeep. You will feel it back there going up any mountain. I tow a 3600 lb Tacoma and mine does fine UNTIL I hit some of the western mtns. Good luck and enjoy your new RV.

Congrats! Great choice. I just purchased a 2016 2350. Don't have it yet. It's getting some updates to it. Hope to have it sometime next month....when the stupid winter weather quits around here.

Time to change your signature!

Hi Bob,

Mainly mid west driving for us, maybe 2 mountain trips a year.

Hi Lynn,

Congrats :-)

All,

Here is my update from the Ford E450 after I got it up on the shop ramp, the shop let me underneath to inspect.

Here are the min things we found.

1. Dead house batteries - no issue as will swap ones from my coach.
2. Noisy serpentine belt.
3. Inner dual was flat. - No tpms
4. Odb2 reader threw a fuel sensor alert.
5. Gen carb is gummed up.
6. Cat was replaced
7. Very clean underneath, saw hardly any rust at all.

Before the inspection I drove it at 70mph on highway and it rode well empty. After 2 mins was driving it like my Expedition. Big difference to the Class A tour bus.

They offered me 4.5k less in trade than what I paid for 4 years, still about 10k mire than what it would be worth under normal circumstances, I do get a 3k tax allowance by trading.

8. Insulation under black tank was split

That sounds like "minimal" issues.

The inner rear tire being flat, make sure it's not a leaking valve extender, a common issue with motorhomes in general. If the valve extenders are the original ones, all should be replaced for reliability sake.

The cat being replaced is likely the result of a thief stealing the original one. This country is under cat attack.

Regarding the generator. You have a very long fuel line from the main fuel tank to the generator. Make sure you prime long enough. Listen for the change in sound from the fuel pump. Then prime for 15 seconds longer, then try starting.

Not sure what to make of the "fuel sensor" alert. I wonder if the fuel tank was over-filled. Give it time. Maybe the code will clear. It might also be that the chassis battery was disconnected for some time and the vehicle needs to run longer to clear the last of those red indicators on the code reader. Don't be in a hurry to address that one unless there is a drivability problem.

A noisy serpentine belt is of coarse an easy matter to deal with.

A split black tank insulation blanket is another easy repair.

It sounds like you found a 14 year old gem. I don't know what mpg you got out of that 38 foot gas pusher, but expect around 8mpg trip average when towing your Wrangler. Limit your cruising speed to 60-62 mph and you'll enjoy the driving experience and scenery a lot better while using the cruise control. Go 5 to 10 mph faster and the gain in time through speed, will be lost spending time (and money) at the pump. You'll also need to talk louder.
