Our old Kwikee slide out has instructions for manual retraction. It came with the two cranking rods necessary to do it ever needed. No disconnecting of wiring is needed.

OP, online videos definitely help at times but you do have to make sure the video is about the specific product you have. Of course they aren't always accurate either.
The Schwinteck motors use a magnetic brake using voltage activated by the controller. So when the controller has voltage then the motor will not spin. This is why you are supposed to have the DC power on the coach when traveling (aka do not disconnect the battery).

When you unplug the harness, the motor is free to spin. At least that is my understanding in all of my troubleshooting of these horrible designs.

But, there's no way that voltage could be present at all times. Otherwise, the battery(s) wouldn't last that long when the rig went too long without engine alternator or the convertor/charger feeding them. There's gotta be something more to this.

If the system does work this way, wouldn't it be easier to just hit the battery disconnect switch rather than unplugging the motors?

Disconnect from shore power.

Disconnect house batteries.

Disconnect engine batteries.

The above will ensure ALL power is removed.

That is the same as disconnecting two wires from the electric drive motor.

If you are already looking at the slide controller to get the error codes, it's easier to just pull the two white harnesses and leave the power on to everything else.

This way you still have your coach lights at the very least.

Great insight! Thanks all for this discussion. So....I have a switch on my Leprechaun that shuts off ALL power to the "coach". Doesn't that satisfy the power cut off to the switch?

Yes and no. There are many different devices that may be connected directly to the battery and will have power regardless of that cut off switch. They require constant power. On my coach, the Equalizer leveling system and power step are in that category. They will operate or sound an alarm if the ignition is started and they are deployed. I'm willing to bet that the slide is in the same boat.

You'd have to check to see how it's wired up. Power off the coach and press the status button on the slide controller to see if it powers up.
