Battery Chargers?

I’m a new owner of a beautiful 32-foot Winnebago Access, and I just removed my chassis and deep cycle batteries when I put the RV into storage for the winter.

Does anyone have any recommendations for battery maintenance over the winter? Specifically, what kind of battery charger/maintainer would anyone recommend purchasing?

I have used BatteryMinders and had good results.
They are a little pricier than some of thevreal cheapest.
They claim to reduce sulphation but hard to prove.
I have kept a couple spare AGM battys on them for 10 yrs and they were fine when pressed into service.
I went with their 2-4-8A version for my 8 AGM GCs as I thought 1.5-2A ones weren't up to holding an 8 batty bank. I keep the 2 chassis battys on their smaller units.

I have used the following ( probably an older version) on my rv and my garage queen sports car for 10 years. Never failed yet. Come springtime, batteries are in tip top shape.

I have had great luck with CTEK.
Has microprocessor controlled charging/maintenance/testing.

I store two Miatas in the winter and have been using these chargers for years with very good results.
As soon as I bought the MH I got a higher amperage model and keep on board all the time.

Expensive but I feel worth it.

Fully charged and disconnected lead acid batteries do not need maintenance chargers. Flooded cells in good condition will last 6 months before needing another full charge.

AGM batteries in good condition will last 12 months. My AGM's hold 13 volts for more than 3 months. That is as long as I have stored so far.

A full clean charge requires 14 to 18 hours of charging. Monitor terminal voltage periodically. Keep it above 12.4 volts. Recharge for 14 hours if necessary. Check water level in flooded cells after charging.

This procedure will prevent freezing and sulfation.

I wish you good luck and happy trails ahead!

If you're looking for something to charge and maintain the batteries I would suggest a Pro-Logix machine. They make several different sizes that can do everything from charge a totally dead battery to maintain one in storage.

We purchased a 2520 model last year when the onboard charger in our 2013 Winnebago Adventurer failed on a trip to Alaska. It kept the house batteries fully charged for the 3 months we were on the road. It has 3 stage capability and can be used to charge many different types and sizes of 6 and 12 volt batteries.

Since returning home I have replaced the onboard charger, and used the Pro-Logix to charge batteries in everything from end loaders to garden tractors.

Here's a link to the models available at the NAPA auto parts stores.

They are also available online from Amazon and other auto parts stores.
