Be careful who you insure with

Due to my DW retiring in August we are moving to Kentucky since we own property there. Went to inform our insurance company that we insure our RV with and our premium went form $1000 a year to $4000 a year.

So please be careful if you move...

Safe travel and have fun..

$1000 a year sounds kind of low for RV coverage. What Indiana insurance company is doing this to you? These states share a common border. Something's not quite right here.

So, get reinstated with your original carrier. You'll pay a cancellation fee to GS but it has got to be cheaper than staying.
In spite of all the hype we see advertised, changing companies seldom can save money and maintain the same types and amounts of coverage. Beware of agents who churn policies.

National General was through Good Sam. When we purchased the RV we were told they were the best and cheapest, NOT. I did go back to my original carrier same coverage and cost we were paying, not the $4000.00

A $4000 premium is certainly not acceptable. However, we live in Kentucky, have National General through Good Sam, and our rate is $503 for a 2005 Safari Trek. We have had Good Sam for several motorhomes since they insured through GMAC, which then morphed into National General, and haven't seen anything negative from the Allstate purchase.

Interestingly, way back when, I changed from Allstate to Good Sam because at that time it was half the cost of Allstate.

Progressive Ins. has good rates. I couldn't deal with GS either.

OB, you got that right. How they rate you is based on historical data for the area of demographics and item being insured.

I once moved 4 miles to the next zip code and my rates went up by 30%

We have Hartford/AARP. Our rates have been very low because they understand we rarely drive two of our four vehicles, the motorhome being one of them. Our motorhome insurance costs us only $215.00 annually.

Last December I hit someone with my 2014 Altima, my fault, defiitely under 10 mph. My foot slipped off the brake pedal, then got caught behind it. My front bumper hit her rear bumper, an old SUV. Her trailer hitch pierced my grille causing a lot of extra damage. I worry what our next insurance bill will look like.

Changing companies after a rate hike has always saved me money. I would love to find a company to stay with but I'm not going to willingly accept a 10 or more percent premium hike at renewal time. I don't mind shopping when this happens,, which is at almost every renewal.

I've had Geico, Progressive, the Hartford, off and on many times. It's kinda funny how their rate goes up, I leave, then call them up again a year later and get a better rate.
