Buying New Class C Motorhome

We are getting very confused about all the Class C Motorhomes. Wondering what everyone thinks about Thor and Winnebago.

Thank you,
Con

I'd pick a Winni over a Thor

Depends what you want it for. They all use the same mix of chassis but play games with the house and chassis combination and the house outfitting. Winnebago might have an edge on quality but I don't like their layouts compared to Thor. Either one on the same chassis will do for us casual weekends/few weeks at a time folks. The gotcha might be the Winnebago is on an E-450 while the same floor plan in Thor might be on an E-350 with lower capacity and/or shorter wheel base for the same size house but lower list price. Some models replace the transfer switch with a simple plug and socket. There are other ways to simplify engineering thus saving cost. Take a good look at whatever floor plan you like then compare models with that floor plan.

I agree with NOTHERMARK... find a floor plan you want and don’t waver or you will be disappointed later. We personally love our floor plan on our Thor. Thor does seem to utilize space better than others imo...

Happy future camping!

We have a new Thor Quantum WS31 and we love it. We have the cabinets in the cab overhead and our amount of storage is outrageous. No real issues and it has been back to dealer once for a 30 minute fix. This summer we have pretty much lived in it.

As an owner of my Minnie for over 16 years i can attest to their longevity. Winnebago offers a one piece fiberglass roof on their Minnie Winnie line. Not sure about Thor. To me this was a big factor when we purchased.

We have had W Class C and now a Thor 22FE 2017. The interior is very nice and when you look behind the cabinets the wiring looks pretty good. Overall I would give our new small coach a B. Our Class C is on a E450 Chassis with the new six speed transmission.s

I have a Winnebago Navion and I had a chance to compare it to Thor Citation coaches built on the same chassis. I was surprised by the equipment that Thor did not put on their coaches or even offer as an option. I think they were trying to reach a price point lower than Winnebago. Thor interiors looked dated and crude to me compared to the Winnebago coaches. Given Thor's generally poor reputation across the industry, I would pass on thor products.

WB
We have had Fleetwood,FR, and two WB type Cs.
Although not perfect, WB has been better quality, better documentation, good phone support. We now have WB Itasco Spirit 31G, layout and features are right for us. Enjoy.

Floor Plan First

We looked at every coach brand available in our area. We chose a Winnebago Minnie Winnie based on the floor plan we liked. One caveat: if you will be driving in mountainous areas, avoid the E350 V-8. The engine has to work harder on the inclines, speaking from experience.

Jake, you got me so confused listing everything that is available on Thor's class C that I have no idea what you have on yours. I think all the amenities you listed are usually available from any RV Maker, maybe just not on the model that someone likes a certain floor plan. Therefore hard to get the "perfect RV", unless buying new and then probably from only one of the direct-from-factory ordered models. Since I can't do that, I always used nothermark's advice in deciding on the floor plan that's best for DW, then find the models that fits the pocketbook, and we have always settled on a Winnebago.

I'm really close to pulling the trigger on a class C . I've looked at a bunch of floor plans. I plan on towing either my Harley in an enclosed trailer or my 4 seat razor on an open one. I'm a bigger guy so this is what I've come up with as important to me .... tow hitch rating - Winnie's are rated at 5000, Thor at 8000, shower size- the thors shower size is slightly bigger, the Winnie's queen bed is bigger 60 x 80 on some , Thor 60x75on all. I like where the sofa and dinette are sit up on opposite sides . It's really tough to decide. The Thor quantum WS 31, the Quantum PD 31, and the Winnebago spirit 31D are at the top of my list. Minnie Winnie's aren't very commen near me .
