Can't fill propane tank
I've been to two propane sellers. At each one the hose connector would not seal with my built in propane tank. The propane operators tried numerous times to get a seal but the propane would leak. Any ideas?

They make temporary fill connectors that go on your leaking fill connector.
You could go to a actual propane dealer and see if they can fix the one you have or get a temporary one to work.
You would leave it on until you use up the gas, then the fill valve could be replaced.

I don't think my connector is leaking. Maybe the vent has to be open on my tank to fill it? It is half filled now. I want to fill it for upcoming trips. I may go to a propane business where they have the knowledge to check the overfill valve or to tell me the proper method of filling so I know for the future. I was hoping someone on here is familiar with this problem. Thanks for your reply.

The hose fitting for the fill valves on a DOT tank (BBQ use) and an ASME tank (RV mounted) are different. When the dealer fills the tank on my RV he changes the fitting on his hose.
Try A regular propane service or RV dealer.

If the above suggestions do not fix the problem, I would inspect very closely the fitting on your tank. There should be a Thick rubber gasket in side a channel that the fill adapter seats onto. I have heard on here on other posts that they can stick on the fill adapter, and if not noticed will leak at the next fill station.
Warning they can be as expensive as $7.00 per (robbery), but they are normally under a dollar.
Google AMSE propane tank rubber seal, saw prices from $6.00 to $0.37 Cents.

Yes, the vent must be open!

No, we fill tanks all the time and never vent off anything. And it is very common for the o ring to be missing. We give them away if missing.

Bleeder valve is connected to a tube that is set at 80% liquid level.
Bleeder valve SHOULD be cracked so that filling is stopped when liquid spews out.
Propane Tanks and Propane Cylinders have 'overfill protection devices'....basically a float that is set to stop filling at 80& liquid level BUT are NOT suppose to be relied on ----bleeder valve is correct method to insure tank is full (80% liquid level)
Weighing is good method but only for cylinders....can't weigh a MH Tank.
SO bleeder valve should be cracked open during filling.
Fill valve gasket missing ????

Problem solved!!
Thanks for the Help!!! The fill gasket is missing. I read responses here and saw a video elsewhere that shows where the gasket should be! I learned something new today. Never had that problem before....
As soon as I can, I will go to a propane dealer and get a new gasket plus a spare. Thanks again

Can't fill propane tank
Great information here. I could easily see the fill gasket disappearing, unnoticed.

I am shocked that you were to 2 different propane facility's to try and get your tank filled.......and neither of them ,during trying to fill, and propane leaking all over, did not notice, or come to the conclusion after unhooking their loading hose, that a gasket was missing
They should not be handling propane!
Glad it was a easy fix for you! Safe travels to ya!

Yep you are right, I keep forgetting, we fill tanks and we have auto shut on scales. Bleeder valve to check for liquid at 80%.

I worked in an oil refinery for 31 years and was trained to properly Handel propane. All people who work at propane filling stations must also have training on the proper handling of propane. If I pulled into a place to have my propane tank on my MH filled and the vent was not opened I would have them disconnect and leave.
