Check with NY, all other states will abide by whatever license you need in NY. In Michigan you do not need any special license for an RV, regardless of weight or length as long as you're within the legal length limit. NY, I'm not sure, but someone will chime in with the correct answer I'm sure.

NY has an R endorsement, for RVs over 26,000 lb GVWR. Its not a CDL, but should be all you need.

There is only one state in the U.S.A. that actually required an actual CDL I forget which New England state, Delaware comes to mind. Some other states require a non-CDL enhanced license for vehicles over a specified weight.

A " CDL " a Commercial Drivers License, a Motorhome is typically not a commercial vehicle.

NY state does require a " R " endorsement on your standard drivers license.

In Texas you need a non-commercial CDL for anything over 26,001. You do have to take a written and driving test.

...if your rig weighs more than 26K lbs. I don't know how much the rig the OP is looking at weighs.

The Vernona 34 super C I just looked at online showed a 34,000 lb GVWR with a 20,000 lb tow rating. In NY, he will need the R endorsement, if he wants to be legal.

Non-Commercial Commercial Driver License? Will they have to check my VIN Number to see if the NCCDL is required?

Exactly right answer - In NY its based on GVWR - Biggest hurdle for most is finding someone with that endorsement or higher to accompany you to / from road test.
Technically to also accompany you while "Learning" but many don't bother.
I got mine and willing to help others depending on timing & location.

Not Delaware. Maryland Class A or B required, no CDL.

I apologize, the old thread I was thinking of was about stopping at weigh stations. That one state responded with a letter stating it was a legal requirement, but seldom enforced..

For what it is worth, as of this time Missouri does not require a CDL or any specific endorsement but there is discussion within the powers to be that this may change per a conversation I had with a DOT officer. The person I talked with wasn’t specific if it will be a CDL or just an endorsement to drive an RV. She did say that there will be both a written and a skills test involved. They did not state if there will be a medical examiner’s card required as there is with a CDL. I do still carry my Class A CDL and my examiner’s card, it is required to keep your CDL active.
