Chevy Chassis MPG

1st run with our 2018 Forester Chevy 2251LE!
Went to Washington DC for the Blooming festival! Quite the scene!
Driving 60-65mph and keeping rpm @ 2000-2500, I got an avg of 8mpg!!! I chatted with the owner of a Sprinter chassis, he reported 16mpg!!! Is that the Chevy standard???

Keep in mind that Sprinter drinks diesel, which typically costs 20-30 percent more than 87 octane gasoline, plus has much higher maintenance cost for oil changes, etc.

That is about the normal MPG on a Class C.

Class B+ without the overhead bed does a lot better MPG

It is not likely that the chassis or engine used makes a big difference in millage. The big variable is the speed you travel at and the wind.

If you increase speed from 55 to 65 mph, gas millage will drop from maybe 11 mpg to 8 mpg. If you drive at 55 and have a head wind of 10 mpg, then the same thing will happen. Even cross winds can have a similar effect.

Accurately measuring gas millage requires driving at one speed in one direction for a short period and then in a short time, driving back at the same speed and the same route.

Head winds become tail winds and cancel each other out.

Your mileage is about right, and if you had the Ford chassis, it would be about the same. The Sprinter is a diesel, and you should also look at the shape - what the box over the cap is like, whether it's the same width and height (total frontal area matters), etc.

I was reading other post and some guys are reporting 10-12mpg with their 7.3l ford base class c!

Either they drive slow, have a smaller frontal area, a more aerodynamic shape to their motorhome, or aren't accurately reporting their overall average. There are lots of factors that come into play for gas mileage.

I've gotten as much as 11 mpg on a tank (with a strong tailwind and 55 mph), but that's not the average. I've also gotten as low as 6 mpg on a tank (with a stiff headwind and 75 mph). It's not unusual for people to report the best they've seen for a tank rather than the average over a season or multiple seasons.

I've found on all forums that many cherry pick their best tank and report that. So take reports of stellar mileage with a grain of salt.

"No cherry picking here", my 2021 BT Cruisier gets 11.5 mpg average at 65 mph all the time, towing a small trailer with motorcycle on trailer it drops to 10.8 mpg.
[ head on wind does down grad the mpg ]

My best mpg on one trip after 500 miles was 12 mpg average, from Twin Falls Idaho to Las Vegas at 65 mph, cruise control on.

However, a class B+ is more aero dynamic than a regular class C.
