I ran my 2000 4 speed with OD off in rolling hills at 50 to 55 mph. That just prevented the hunting between gears the transmission would do.
On interstates I left OD ON and let it decide when to shift.
I tried comparing instant MPG on my Scangauge II but it was almost impossible to get a good read on it. Maybe out on a flat desert highway but they don't have them east of the Mississippi.
I never tracked trip MPG because I couldn't change it anyway.

FWIW ... fuel cost can and probably will eventually pale when compared to RV maintenance costs.
i.e. I just paid $1700+ to get some fresh water plumbing repaired in our Class C! I couldn't get at the various PEX fittings/valves to repair them and had to give up. The repair facility even replaced the deteriorated PEX valves with brass ones so that it would (hopefully) never happen again.
P.S. I cruise at 58-62 MPH to keep safety high and fuel costs low whenever we travel. I also keep the tranny in Tow/Haul mode just about all the time.

My 2015 E-450 is 30’ and 13,000 lbs, I usually drive 60-65 mph pretty much always up and down in the Canadian Rockies.
I tow a small boat trailer and average about 9 mpg, I mounted the Scangauge in the coin holder.

re: Scan Gage: So questions becomes, what is rig size, and MPG, and HOW MUCH MPG effect do you think SCAN GAGE has on your driving? Further, I believe I disagree with the comment about apples/ oranges for older/newer. as we with older rigs might find interesting how much, if any better, does the 6-speed do to MPG on later models vs old 4-speed?

Maybe a couple of cans of Berryman's fuel treatment would help. But if it does it wouldn't be much. Still a good idea to do everynow once in a while.

Class C Ford V10 MPG?
So, I wanted to come back and update. After cleaning the MAF and changing out the O2 sensors, I am happy to report that I left for vacation today and got 7.8 mpg. That was with the dash air conditioning running the entire time. I have never gotten above 7 mpg since I owned this, and it sure beats the average of around 5.5 mpg that I was getting recently.
Also should add that this was average speed of 60 to 65 mph like I normally do.
Thought you all might be interested in knowing. I know I always like follow ups to threads from an OP.

Thanks for the update and glad to hear. Hopefully your tire pressure is good too. I noticed no other replys mentioned tires, good pressures can save fuel.

I would say FIRST check/ replace AIR FILTER; next suspicion might be a COP is starting to misfire, but not yet set a code? Suggest you listen/ feel exhaust at idle, (may tell much, or may tell nothing). Good Luck.

Tire pressure is 80 psi for rear tires, 65 psi for front just as the door sticker lists it should be. I check that often.

We have a 2020 Thor Class C. It is a 22E model so it's 24' long. No slideouts and a E350 chassis. I've gotten 8-9 mpg or so on a trip from MD to NC without towing anything. When towing a 16' open car trailer and 3,000 lb car from MD to NY I got 7-8 mpg. On it's normal trip towing a 24' enclosed trailer and car I get 6-7 mpg.

As another data point, just got back from an ~8,000 mile trip from the PacNorthWET to FL and back. I set the cruise at 60mph, which is about 57/58 by GPS, no toad. Headed east we averaged just under 9, headed back (west) just under 10. Historically, we've averaged closer to 10. I attribute the fall-off in the first part of our trip to a head-wind.
As an additional reference, paid a high price of $5.29/gal at the Safeway down the street from my house and a low of $2.95/gal at a Buc-ee's in (I think) Tennessee.
