CLASS C on 2021 Ford E350 Chassis filling problem

I have a Class C on 2021 Ford E350 Chassis and when I fill up for gas the pump stops every 5 seconds. It takes me forever to fill my tank. Has anyone had this problem with the Ford E350 Class C?

It sounds like there could be an issue with the filler tube. Maybe it is kinked. I have heard of this being a problem on only a few rigs, both Ford and Chevy, typically kinked filler tubes. A minor adjustment is the usual solution.

Inspect from the filler neck to the tank, the fuel run has to be straight no sags are allowed. In most cases the rubber hose is maybe an inch or more too long and develops sag between the filler neck and the tank, also inspect any vent lines to the carbon canister, I have seen mud dubbers nests in the carbon canisters.

We had the same problem. It was ok when we first purchased the coach but as time passed became impossible to fuel. I investigated and the photo below shows you what I found. I believe the hoses between the chassis and the coach were under stress when the coach was built and over time compressed.

Cool Been there done that...

We bought our 2012 Nexus Phantom 23P lightly used, just 6,205 miles from a dealer in Tucson. It is a 2011 chassis E-350. Fueling was always a PITA as it kept burping and shutting off the flow of fuel. Just getting 20 gallons in took quite a while.

My Assumption was that the fuel vent hose was somehow compromised. On the return leg of a 2 month cross country trip {Tucson to Maine} we stopped at the Nexus factory in Elkhart for a couple of upgrades {a custom spare tire mount under the rear of the coach and an additional seatbelt installed at the dinette}.

I told them of my fueling issue and put them on the clock {at a very reasonable $75 an hour} to fix the problem. Two guys went to work on it while we enjoyed a thorough tour of the factory. After a hour they called me over and announced they had found and cured the problem. The fuel hose itself was kinked which quickly caused enough of a restriction to shut down the pump. They pulled the hose, reinstalled and even dumped 5 gallons of $4+ gas in to confirm they had it corrected.

When I asked what the bill was he said zero. it had obviously come to their factory from Ford with the hose kinked and "We should have caught it as we build a better coach than that." Keep in mind the coach was not only out of warranty but we did not even buy from Nexus. That my friends is awesome customer service. Nine+ years and 73k+ trouble free miles later we are still very happy campers.

I would like to add never top off the tank when it clicks off. Trying to get a little more gas in will cause problems with the canister. It usually takes a few tanks to clear up.

I admit, I top off our 2007 rig's E350 50 gallon fuel tank when heading to a remote area where I plan to use the generator a lot. I can nurse-in an extra 5 gallons after the initial clicking-off at the gas pump. So far, no mechanical issues. Maybe I am simply lucky not having problems, or maybe our fuel filler tube arrangement causes an early click-off.

Yah blame it on ford when the rv manufacturer modifies it.

I thought the same thing. At least they made right what they originally messed up, and done so at no charge. Kudos to them.

My 2022 conquest will do that at most stations, but other times no problem, if the driveway tilts passenger side down it fills quickly.

Wink Opinions vary...

"Yah blame it on ford when the rv manufacturer modifies it."

When Ford ships a cutaway one ton van chassis to any RV manufacturer it comes with the fuel system already installed. Building a Class C has nothing to do with the fuel system and there are no modifications to it. So "Yah" I believe Nexus when they said it came from Ford that way and they should have caught it when they built the coach.

They admitted their error and fixed it for free... worked for me.

The chassis is received from Ford or GM with the filler tube pretty much hanging out there. Because the width of the house can vary by many inches, the position of the fuel filler is not in a consistent position relative to the fuel tank. So I would say that it is the responsibility of the "RV manufacture", not Ford or GM.

I have had this issue on and off on our Winnebago Aspect. It seems to have gotten worse over the years though, and someone told me the newer gas fume emission pump nozzle designs are to blame. Not sure if that's true; a kinked line sounds like the more likely culprit.
I have learned that if I set the pump handle on the lowest fill setting it usually will fill with no problem. I should probably crawl under there and inspect the line though.
