This is now the 4th year my wife and I have spent the winter in Florida in our Minnie Winnie 22r class c. We always stay at least 3-5 months. We also usually take at least 1 or 2 side trips to different parts of the state. We are both in our 70's and do just fine. We use the bathroom and shower daily. On hot days..A/C and on cold nights usually just a small ceramic heater. The longest we have gone without full hookup is 4 days. We usually have full hookup. We have survived freezing temps and temps in the 90's. During the summer we travel to colorado and the southwest. We also make at least one trip to the New England area. We do tow a small 2020 Chevy Sonic....

We did it in our 35’ Class A and I know we could do it in our 25’ Class C but……
If we were staying in one location for that long a time…..we would definitely have a toad like we used to have with the Class A. We don’t tow anymore.
Now……we never stay in one location more than 3-4 days…..it’s just our new found way of RV-ing.

We bought our first new Winnebago View in August of 2005, traveled extensively on 2 and 3 month trips, even lived in it for 5 months when having a house built. Bought a new Itasca Navion in March of 2012 and took some nice 2-3 month trips in it. Early in 2014 bought a new Tiffin Breeze because we were selected to volunteeer as campground hosts in Yellowstone National Park, did 4 summers of about 4 months each and then traveled in it another month or two each fall. Also had gigs as campground hosts at Guadalupe Mountains, Shenandoah and Hot Springs National Parks. In October of 2017, we bought another new Winnebago View, did one more summer again at Yellowstone as campground hosts and didn’t really miss the larger Class A much. Now we simply travel around in our View, usually a 2 month trip in Jan/Feb and about 3 months in late summer/early fall. The rest of the year we stay home and often wish we were on the road! We have always had a toad. Small rv works if the two of you get along well … we have for coming up 56 years.
Have fun! Enjoy your travels.

From what I have observed, the Chevy Sonic seems to be an ideal tow vehicle as long as you don't need 4x4 capability.
Is yours an automatic or manual transmissison? I wonder if the automatic can handle being towed while in neutral.

Ron... the chevy sonic is one of the few vehicles left that can be flat towed as an automatic( at least my 2020 model). I have the blue ox baseplate installed as well as the Demco duo stay and play braking system. As you know I have the ford 6.8L V10 on an E-350 chassis and I dont even know the car is behind me. I push 2 buttons and I am good to go....Bob

Good for you Bob!!! What a sweet little tow vehicle that requires no special considerations for the automatic. That must be a one of a kind now-a-days. If we didn't need what our Jeep Liberty provides, a high-standing 4x4 capability, I would be looking at the Sonic.
Your short motorhome and tiny tow vehicle together make for great mobility.....I like that!

I had looked for the hatchback but bought the sedan model. Glad I did. Makes a very nice "trailer" for stowing extra stuff during towing. Also...having a trunk makes keeping golf clubs etc. hidden from view and more secure. I am getting ready to have the second idler pulley installed in hopes that it will eliminate some of the metallic rattling sound I get when accelerating between 45-60mph. Pretty good thread on this forum relative to this 2nd pulley. Why Ford left it off in the newer V10 engine models is unsure...

Our Liberty came with extremely dark passenger door on-back glass, so dark that you can't see whats inside, day or night unless they have a strong flashlight. So we have our own visual deterrence. We usually have the rear seats folded down which creates a large storage compartment for bulky items like our zero gravity chairs and golf clubs. If someone wants them bad enough, they can have them as nothing is of high value, but please don't damage the vehicle.
Like you say, it is nice to have a storage trailer built into the over-all scheme of things.

Took my thor 23u and towed 4door Rubicon jeep from LA to Alaska and back this summer. 3 of us, 2 adults, 13 yr old. Did fine, had everything we needed, hook ups on occasion. Longest we camp no hook ups 7 days, plenty for quick showers, heat, fridge etc. That includes being stuck 4,5 days in valdez with covid for all 3 , no place to go, stuck in rain, cold, the pass to leave had snow as well. Talk about cabin fever! Surprised me how sturdy it was. Lots of trailers, other motorhomes at the welding shop in Tok after the ride up on the Alaska hwy..

We've taken 4 week and 6 week trips around the U.S. in our 24 ft. Class C. Both trips were in the summer months of July-August.
We use full hookup campsites and drycamp campsites during our trips in all of the 16 years that we have owned our Class C. We do not tow and did not miss much at all due to any parking issues. We like to have our RV close by at all times.
However, we were fortunate and wound up with a very well equipped and versatile Class C.

We have taken extended trips in ours also. We do not tow a car. Plan ahead for groceries, meals, etc.
Have rented a car if extending our stay at a destination a few times. Otherwise, we get along just fine with just our small motorhome most everywhere.
Has everything we need. No more, no less. Makes traveling pretty easy and hassle free.

The biggest problem I have is that this little, low, cars front end takes a beating being towed on long distances. I am thinking about getting a LeBra front end car cover to protect the white paint.
