Coach House 272 First Impressions

In January 2020 we purchased a 2020 Tiffin Wayfarer 25RW. We took one camping trip in this Coach before the Pandemic began and decided that the Murphy bed Floorplan would not work for us. We have always had small Rv’s and therefore began a search for another small RV with a better Floorplan that would suit us.

Finding a well made small Class A or Class C with a acceptable Floorplan was difficult. No class A shorter than 28’ was available and a Class C choice came down to a 2351D Phoenix Cruiser and a 272 Coach House. To avoid the OCCC problems with the Sprinter chassis, we wanted a new Ford chassis with 7.3 V-8 engine and the new safety features.

We chose the Coach House because it was only 14 inches longer than the Tiffin Wayfarer and the bed could be used with the slide in which the Phoenix Cruiser did not allow. So in July 2020 we drove to Nokomis Fl and traded the Wayfarer in for a new Coach House to be built. Our coach was to be delivered in February 2021. Our coach was finally delivered to us on April 1, 2021. Our first impressions follow.

The negotiations went well and we were prepared to lose money on our trade in but did get some discount off the msrp on the new Coach. We were able to leave Nokomis with a good feeling after touring their plant and viewing their solid construction process. When we returned 9 months later the PDI went smooth and after checking all aspects of the Coach on an overnight stay, we departed for home the next day. After driving 1200 miles home averaging between 70 and 75 mph, our trip meter showed 10.9 mpg.

Once home I did a top to bottom inspection of the Coach and was impressed with the construction. All wires were securely attached, all entries into the Coach from below were foamed, heating pads on tanks included pads on not only the tanks but also the drain valves, the solid shell was impressive and the slide out battery tray with 3 AGM batteries outstanding. The interior was finished out nicely with leather recliners and fine cabinets. The 10 inch Garmin entertainment and navigation unit integrated into the Ford steering wheel was a welcome addition.

Here are the pros of this unit;

Solid aerodynamic shell that provided a very quiet ride
Superb construction that left nothing to be corrected after delivery
New Ford chassis with 7.3 V-8, safety features, OEM TPMS, adaptive cruise control and 6 speed transmission with manual downshift capability
3000 lbs OCCC with 7500 lb tow capacity
Short Coach. 26’ 10 “ with walk around queen bed
Fully functional interior with both slides retracted
HWH leveling and HWH slides
Firefly system with smart phone app capability
All electrical outlets have USB
Surge and electric protection built in, no external surge protector needed
After 1200 mile trip home and one short camping trip, no faults have been discovered

Here are some cons
Bathroom and shower are small
Not as fuel efficient as a Sprinter chassis

We feel this is the best motorhome we have ever had and it makes sense that the best came last. We are in our 70’s and this will be our last RV. If anyone is considering downsizing from a large diesel pusher, I would recommend that they look at Coach House. We are sure glad we did.

Congrats on your new Coach House! It sounds like a great RV! We’re seriously considering purchasing one (Platinum 271) and had a couple of questions.
1. Will the microwave and outlets operate off of the inverter when boon docking or parking for a quick lunch at a rest stop?
2. Are there adequate 110 outlets and are they located where you can use them? For example, in the bedroom, near your recliners, and in the galley?
3. Are the recliners comfortable?
4. Now that you’ve driven it, is there any options you would have ordered or anything you’d change?

Congrats again on your new rig!

Outlets are adequate but Coach House added an additional outlet and outside coax outlets for portable satellite dish for us. The inverter runs all outlets but the AC and microwave. It is a 1200w inverter. Generator would have to be run fo AC or microwave. The power recliners are very comfortable but cannot fully recline unless the slide is out. Great for travel though. Optioned it with most options including upgraded floor. The only option I wish Coach House offered would be a central vac. I installed a dirt devil central vac in the closet where Coach House install an outlet for me.

How much did that Coach House cost ?, I was looking at one but decided on the BT Cruiser since it was in stock at a dealer and cost a lot less, however I had to do some issue repairs but not to bad, I guess I got what I paid for, I like my murphy bed and 25 foot length, it goes almost any where..

The 7.3 V-8 and 6 speed trans is the best, low rpm torque and stays in 6th gear almost all the time.

I to down sized from a 33 foot class A.

Great, thank you for the followup! We’ll be visiting the factory in Oct, so will look carefully at the outlet locations.

Ball park figures for the Platinum models are $175k to 200k depending on options. The high quality of the Coach is reflected in its’ price. The Phoenix Cruiser is also a high quality coach and it is also reflected in its’ higher cost.

Got some pics? I checked the New Rig section but didn't find any. We'd love to see pics.

Here are some pictures from the build. You can also get a better idea of our coach by going to the Coach House website and look at the Cypress interior photos.

Class B

The Coach House lineup is promoted on the manufacturer's website as a Class B.

Suggest moving this thread to the Class B subject.

My class C was 1/2 the price for twice as much room.

Coach House promotes their Platinum line as a B+ Not a B. The B+ classification is not a recognized RV category but is a marketing tool like a super C category. An RV built on a cutaway chassis is defined a a Class C

Gary, last I saw you folks was at Chociti Lake in your TT. We have also since bought a Coach House 272XLFS a few months ago. It is new to us. I agree with all of your comments about the quality construction. Ours is a 2007, so it is missing some of the more recent upgrades. However, I've making up for that myself.

I figure gas milage in an RV is not something I'm going to worry about. The difference in cost of say 9 and 11 mpg over the total expense of the RV and using it is very small in most cases.

We still have our Excel 5th wheeler for some kinds of trips and love the CH 272 for road trips. We also looked at the Phoenix Cruiser 2351D and decided for the small difference in cost we'd go the CH line. In the end we searched nationwide for the right deal which took us about 15 months and then we bought real fast. Had already lost out in three other deals by only 1 or 2 hours of downpayment time.

Enjoy,

Fred & Denise
