Coach House on E450 Ford Chassis

Looked these up just to see what everyone was talking about.
The sight called these Class C's but they really look more like a Class B/B+.
They should get better milage as they are not as wide and blunt in front.

We love our 2021 271. Just got back from a 14,000 mile 4 month trip to Alaska. Without towing our 4DR Jeep we get 11 mpg, towing around 10.

We took the coach to safe-t-plus last year to get their system plus sway bars and Koni shocks. Tracks much better going down the road, big improvement.

Due to our sticks and bricks being under construction we have put 45,000 miles on her in 16 months and loved every minute. The construction is top notch- we are able to stop in Fl periodically for warranty items.

The sway is more pronounced (but not drastic) when towing our F-150. It definitely tracks better w/o towing. As Ron and Frederickmd point out the sway bars and shocks should really help. I’ll try incremental (read cost effective ) changes until it feels right. Over all, we love the CH. It’s a big change from out Entegra Anthem DP but very comfortable and well built.

Just curious, did you tow your Jeep to Alaska? We toured Alaska in 2014 in a DP pulling a Jeep Liberty. We are considering a return trip with the CH, but not sure I want to tow an F-150 up there.

We could not have done AK without a toad. Too many places we explored that the Jeep helped with. We saw some towing that had added blankets to their tow vehicle windshield. We did not but did put PPF film on the front of the Jeep as it was new.

Lowered windshield deductible to $0 on both insurance policies and in fact cracked both windshields. With the coach we were on the Allan on a portion that was gravel - here comes a truck the other direction. We held our breath and yup got pinged. Nothing we could have done about it.

The roads were fine except for one stretch near Tok , plus it’s part of the adventure. Just calculated our overall trip mpg, 9.3. But the Jeep is a 4dr with 3 storage boxes in back, two sets of golf clubs etc. We run heavy near the GVWR in the 271 and you add the 5k of the Jeep…

The Ford engine does well - there are some 8-9% hills that gets you down to 2nd or 3rd gear but it is what it is.

Off topic - Don’t speed through Canada. We did Banff and Jasper in 2021. This trip Waterton, Banff, Jasper. Allow at least a week to 10 days in that area…

We had the same windshield experience as you did on our 2014 Alaska trip. A big rock from a passing truck hit the DP windshield while driving through a small town. Thanks for your thoughts on towing.

Last week I checked with Coach House on ordering a 2024 272FR IV. They quoted 12-14 months from order to delivery. 10K down to place an order, another 10K when order goes into production and the remainder due on delivery.

We did a Factory Tour of Coach House a couple of weeks ago and were told the same for ordering / delivery timeline . We liked everything about Coach House but the Price as the MSRP has dramatically risen !

Boy isn't that the truth. The 272 starts out at 264K and that's before any options or TTL. I checked the price of a fully loaded 2024 E-450 cutaway that were available at a few of the local dealerships. They priced out at 40 to 43K before TTL. I'm sure Coach House gets some type of dealer volume discount. But that means they are charging 221K for the house portion. Makes you think about what else you could buy for the same amount of cash. Even LTV has had some dramatic price increases. But their used market has grown substantially over the last few months. Saw 163 on RV Trader the other day. Seems to be a little harder finding a used Coach House if you want the Godzilla engine.

Your post above explains one of the differences between CH and LTV. As the number of LTV's available for sale on RVT increases, their prices have to fall. Since the number of CH units available on the market stays so low, the resale value of the CH remains high.

For those of you who have toured the Coach House Factory or talked to a sales rep, any idea how many they are producing per year? LTV said last week they are at 18 units per week. 15 Unity and 3 Wonder. LTV Production time is 3-4 weeks per unit with 6-8 days just in paint.

They build around 80 per year although they have been impacted with delays in delivery on the frames.

Yes, at only 1.5 units per week for CH, it takes time to build quality.
