E450 House Battery

It looks like house battery time on our 2012 E450 chassis C. I started looking for something better than the OEM Harris 27D170 units in there. So far no luck with any really deep cycle storage as opposed to the Marine/RV units. Most of the problem is the added height of the GC-2 and it's family. That left me thinking it was worth a thread to see if anyone else has figured out how to put something better in without modifying the existing bracket. Any thoughts?

House Batteries

I replaced the original batteries in my 2011 Forester with US Battery 31DCXC.
They were bigger then the Group 27's but they fit under my steps fine. I wanted to run Trojan 6v batteries but they were much too tall.

Thanks. I had not found that size change.

FWIW I'm trying to figure out if the Duracell batteries from Sam's Club are close to as good as the Trojan or Interstate equivalents for roughly half the price. They might be as Sam's avoids 1 or 2 levels of the distribution chain.

I made a bracket between the existing battery housing and frame for two batteries. that was a tight fit. and placed a third in the original spot. i would have liked to go with a couple of 6 V, but they are too tall for my set up.

I have had the Duracell Group 31 AGMs for three years and would recommend them over flooded batteries. They require really no maintenance. Dont be fooled by the Duracell branding, they are made by East Penn - a very reputable battery manufacturer.
