Gladiator vs Tacoma

We have a Jeep Wrangler but like the idea of a small truck. Thinking of the Jeep Gladiator or the Toyota Tacoma. Any experience with either of these vehicles?

Aside from any other factors, the seating is very different. The Gladiator is more like traditional Jeeps, with a high, upright seating position. The Tacoma has a low seat, with the pedals far forward like a performance car. I like both vehicles very much, but my spine can not withstand the punishment of the Tacoma.

Tacoma Flat Towing

I have a 2004 Toyota Tacoma with manual transmission and manual transfer case. I think that this was the last Tacoma that can be flat towed without damage or installing a drive shaft disconnect. Later models have electrically controlled transfer cases. These don't work for flat towing.

Some of the Trail versions of the 4Runner have the required manual transfer case. Toyota will not recommend flat towing of any of their trucks or SUVs. They do allow flat towing of some of the small sedans.

Almost all jeeps are flat towable.

Regards,

Jerry

Stick with the Wrangler. It's a lighter tow.
Unless you want to push the towing envelope, or your MH can pull more than the standard 5,000lbs. based on GVWR/GCWR and drawbar rating.
Besides, the Gladiator is just a Wrangler JKU without the rear covered storage area, they turned that into a tiny truck bed, and closed the cab behind the rear seats. And, it's looks like a poor man's Hummer (ugly).
A newer Ford Ranger 4WD would work better, and it's about 300lbs lighter than the "Ugliator". It's actually close to the Wrangler in weight.
