High pitch squeal coming from A/C unit

Hi, my rooftop ac started to squeal, can anyone direct me on what it could be? It also makes the same noise when the fan only.

Check the fan bearings.

How can anyone give you an answer. You need to go on the roof, take off the AC cover, start unit to hear where the noise is coming from and go from there. If you do not hear it from anything there, then remove the inside ceiling cover and listen there also for the blower fan.

Well, description is pretty good. Makes noise with fan only. Fan has bearings...bearings can go dry and squeal.

Either fan motor bearings or a fan dragging and hitting the housing.

Fan only is the squirrel cage fan used for the evaporator. Replace it.

While fan bearing squeal is first suspicion, also possible is frozen evaporator, or wasp/ mud dauber nests, or loose/ bent fan blades. Descriptive words are subjective?
