Hot Water Heater vs. Mouse

I have evidence that a mouse got behind my HWH inside the coach. I cannot access the area that he was in without pulling the HWH out via the outside. My question is this: should I go to that expense to assess any damage or just turn it on and hope for the best. I am not aware of wires in that area. I do know that he chewed on some of the insulation that surrounds the HWH. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I had to replace a water heater on one of my previous motor homes. Found an access plate under the heater - removed that plate and had access to the back of the heater. Not real easy to replace the heater but you should be able to see the back if yours has the access plate.
