I don't have any answers for you. I will be watching to see what kind of answers you get. I have a Onan 4000 in a class C and can't find the fuel filter. I know it needs to be changed. No dealers in my area.

A friend of mine has a Phoenix cruiser. It tripped a reset that was near the generator. Not in the generator itself. I would call the manufacturer and ask them. They would surely know and would tell you. Marvh

Here is a PDF Manual for a 4000.
Says it has a Magnetic circuit breaker.

Dont know how long you have had the coach, but son had used it and called that it wouldn't run anything. Found out after he unplugged from shore power, he did not plug it into coach. Also on bottom of genny, theere is a off and on switch. If off, will not let current go through.

My fuel filter is right in the front of the gen with very easy access. It is in the bottom of the fuel pump. If you want I can copy some photos out of my manual and send them to you via email or PM.

On the old 4000 just trace the fuel line coming to the genset the filter usually is located just before the fuel pump small round cylinder that the hose connects to it has a barbed nipple on 1 end and the other screws into the pump, on a microlite 4000 the fuel filter screws into the inlet of the carberator usually you have to cut the hose clamp off of the hose and replace

rv guru: Thanks for the info. I will look again, I see where there is an access plate for the filter, but I have not found the filter. I have a 2006 Onan 4000.

give me the model number and i can access and send you the service manual for it, which will tell you how to completely service the generator, and break down every part.

I have an Onan 4KY in a class C. My fuel filter is located on the front end of generator inside the housing.

Mine will not run now but I think it is the carb. It will run a few seconds and quit.

Have you checked the fuse/breaker located on the generator itself (right hand side as I recall) - when that pops you don't get juice inside the coach. Not sure about accessing the brushes - but if those had gone bad I would think the generator would not keep running - that logic is based on my understanding that the generator won't keep running unless it senses that it's producing AC.

You should consider purchasing the service manual for your particular generator -- Onan sells them online for about $20?

If you can't find the fuel filter in the locations that others have suggest your generator might not have one --- my Emerald Plus 4,000 doesn't and it still going strong since 91.
