No Mike...I was Surface Navy, Engineering Department the whole time. Still 80 guys to the berthing compartment can be trying. Brother was a submariner, yes...it's tight in those subs

Well I have to jump in here. I still remember the very first night in boot camp, got woken up very early to get us to chow before we got in the way of all the others I suppose, and all of us going to the head first thing, and I said to myself, [moderator edit] did I do, lol. Well you will get over that soon, as all of you know that went there, because, they keep you busy as hell.
Yes and berthing compartments were stuffed with people. Our racks were 3 high, or is that low. I had the middle rack, and when laying in bed, I could raise my hand up some and with my finger, touch the rack above me, believe me, it's a tight situation. And, the mattresses on springs, were only about 1 or 2 inches thick. Good thing I was young. As you can see by my signature I was on an old carrier. I respect her more now than I did then but it was ok then. Had a few good times and met some good friends. Looking for solitude, I was able to find some places when off duty, that I could be by myself and get some sleep, sometimes few and far between.
Ah Yes, the good ole days.
I do understand the need for being by ones self, but I also like socializing as well, mostly on my terms. But, I am adjustable, so far, wink.
Have a Great Day!!

Poor Gobs at Camp Dewey in June of '69 on medical hold were taking cold showers until I got there. Crawled underneath, open the hot water valve and thence began my revenge on every Service Week I ran across.

Last ship I was on the berthing had only 205 people, 1 19 inch tv and NO head. We were right below the galley. Had to go up thru the chow line to find a head that was open. Yes, I do enjoy my time alone-that's why I ride my motorcycles out here in the desert.

Not a guarantee of silence, but have you heard of or checked out Harvest Host?

That's funny. Wilbur from Wisconsin claimed that on a windless night you could hear the corn growing. Now that would keep me awake!

Sounds like you need a missile silo, not a campground...

I had hoped to be alone while camping, but can’t seem to get away from the dw. Our rig is too small to hide in the bathroom. If I take too long a hike away from the rv, she might drive away in the tv.
