Looking for first RV - Diesel Super C

The wife and I have been tossing around the idea of a motorhome for a few years now. We are thinking this summer may be the year that we start RVing. I want a diesel, I don't believe gas is a good choice here (don't try to convince me differently as the largest gas engine I own is a motorcycle). I've been looking at the duramax powered Jayco Seneca types, we like the floor plans with the double bunk as well as the bunk above the driver's compartment. The newer F550 based RVs are starting to interest me. The price seems attractive for a newer unit. Ideally I want to stay under $90k.

What is the general consensus regarding RV age? Most of the Jayco units are 2008-2010 while the 550s are much newer. Any tips for buying a used RV?

Paper work on maintenance history
Age of tires.
Add about 10% to what you pay for the rig to change things you want to upgrade or just make different. The 10% figure was never spent in the first year of ownership in my cases, but over the first couple of years.

I was in your position last year and looked hard at the Super C's on the Ford 550 chassis . I researched and researched plus drove a few. I was just not comfortable with them and their quality. I then drove a Jayco Seneca and immediately knew which way I wanted to go. You might want to visit the Jaycoowners.com forum and check out what the owners have to say. I wish you the best of luck in your decision, it is not an easy one.

Super C

I have recently downsized from a 40 ft Beaver Patriot to a2007 Jayco Seneca and have been very happy with it. Prior owner had put air bags on rear plus a rear stabilizer and steering stabilizer on the front. I put new tires all around and took a 1200 mile trip and am very pleased with the performance and driving. Towed a 2007 Jeep Liberty and got approximately 10.8 mpg running the generator and both air conditioners. 2007 doesn't require DEF.
