I just looked under the kitchen sink (here in my stick & brick) and see I have several cleaners. I may try Pine cleaner as I have 1/2 gallon I got on sale. It leaves a nice natural residual odor. That would be plenty to wet down the engine. More than enough as it's diluted for use. I also have a quart of Sudsy Ammonia. That should kill bacteria, molds/mildews and viruses. And something called Power Orange I haven't tried yet. If it stop raining you know I'll be out there spraying one of these....

I think the Dollar Store carries Simple Green.

Wear a mask/respirator and gloves if you are around any mouse droppings for your safety. We had to do such when I worked in grain elevators in the summer and handling the traps.

As far as diseases... the Bubonic plague is still found in the USA occasionally too, so it is a really good idea to wear a serious face mask (like hazmat workers wear) and gloves, and dispose of any clothing after you are done cleaning up. Treat the waste as hazardous material, double bag and get rid of it asap.

No need to get too worried about catching dreadful diseases. Half the non-commercial campgrounds in the western third of the US have warnings up about catching the plague from the animals, yet if you look up the statistics, only a handful of people actually catch it - and I'd bet that none of them were motorhomers anyway.

We have those masks from some other task awhile back. You can be sure we'll stand as far back when we do this as possible.

The Mechanics removed all the nests so that stuff, the loose material, is already gone. The smell is from their urine mostly. Few odors are worse than old rancid rodent urine. I know what Awesome is. I've used it in the past. Plain water may even work to get rid of the urine but we're going to use several products anyway, then spray the entire interior of the RV with Fabreze and Lysol.

Fortunately the Plague is not known to exist in our area.

Yes, we know, but thanks for reminding us as it may help others reading this thread. We may use several products on some clean job, but we never mix them together. We use one at a time.

Good. It's such a shame that you had to go through this. I went out recently to a motorhome that this guy was parting out because of a mouse infestation. Mice doody everywhere. I got the table, and the door and a couple of small things and left as quickly as possible.

It looked like it was a pretty good old rig, but he wanted nothing to do with it after the mice took it over. I can't say as I blame him.

Just a thought... you might want to bomb for fleas while you are at it.

Ya know, I doubt that the smell is coming from the engine although i'm sure it does exist on it, I'm willing to bet if it was that strong the whole trip it is in the heater core/AC. Been there done that.

I know what you mean. Mice moved into a mobile home my Aunt and Uncle own up in the mountains of NY state. They literally destroyed the MH. The smell alone would drive out a maggot. The smell of mouse dirt was impossible to remove so they more or less abandoned the MH. It was used as a "guest house" when they had company.

That's a good idea. After washing the engine the smell was a lot less and more nests came out. But the odor pervaded everything. I can only hope it starts to dissipate now with the rodent "dirt" gone.

We'll be home later today (we're down at the lake CG) and as soon as we take it for a ride we'll know if we got the mouse dirt or not. Is the heater core/AC accessible in a Class-C?

Probably not as easy as it was on mine. Yours is probably factory and having vans all of my life there is nothing that is easy to get to on them.
