New E450

Ford now producing E450 chassis with new doghouse to give more room. I wonder if this doghouse with be able to fit older chassis.

Could be smaller due to the new 7.3 V8. Smaller package then the V10.

The new motor is a pushrod type, not over-head cam, and thus “shorter”. It was speculated and hoped for, here and elsewhere, last year that this would ultimately result in a design change providing a smaller dog house, and thus more room on the cab. I guess this the hoped-for redesign. And no, I’m sure there are other differences in the redesign so even if you could force it into place (which I doubt) it probably wouldn’t mate up. Be nice if it did though....

I was hoping for pics but this is all I found at that link

“E-Series cutaway receives a new scalloped engine access cover this year that provides additional legroom in response to customer requests from the recreational vehicle industry.“

The new E-450 Class C with the V-8 from a couple brands I've seen still had the identical cover as the V-10 . When is the new cover going to be produced ?

I looked at and sat in a 2021 Jayco class C.

It had the V8 but I didn't see any more foot room.
It looked like less room then my 1999 class C.

I didn't check the build date so may be its a 2020 chassis.

From what I have read the new chassis started production on January 1, 2021. The previous 2021 chassis, which had the new V-8, did not have a new doghouse. So it looks like it will be a short wait until the new doghouse shows up on Rv lots.

My question is; did Ford change the chassis to accommodate a new doghouse for the V-8 or did they just design a new doghouse that may be retrofitted on the 2021 chassis with the new V-8.

Engine/trans are probably a little further forward in the chassis so that would allow for a some what smaller cover. I doubt that they changed the body opening.

I guess it’s not revolutionary enough for Ford to provide “before” and “after” pictures.

Nah. That would be too easy.

You want a new doghouse.....buy a new Ford (built after the doghouse introduction).

the new motor package seems to have more room as the plenum and FI is more compact..
This newer cover if made for more room in cab is NOT gonna fit the older models.. IMO

the old 460 chassis already had less that 1 inch from intake plenum and plumbing to cover.. I have played around with it enough..

the next gen chassis had a change to the dash and cover that gave a slight more room with the V10.. I have a e250 in that chassis.. I was able to fit the door steep from newer vans into the old classc with 460's , this gives your passenger RT foot about a 6"x4" more area to rest on..

I don't see how a smaller doghouse would be possible to fit on an older one and give "more legroom". The older doghouse barely covered the hole in the floor / chassis. The new chassis must have a smaller hole to allow a smaller doghouse.

Just add 2 simple metal plates to the floor & different carpet cut & mats.
or
Maybe Ford already had adjusted the chassis "hole" for the new engine & new cover but just wanted to use up an excess supply of the old covers first ? run out a cover supplier's contract first ?

No, the new engine is not overhead cam so the heads are much shorter and compact. Makes for a narrower engine.

What is the width of the old V-10 ? I don't have one to measure .
