New FORD V8

Can anyone comment on how the new Ford V8 compares with the GM V8 please. Objectivity would be good.😄

I had a GM 8.1 L in my 2003 Allegro on a W20 chassis. I sold it with 52000 miles. The motor had plenty of power and for the most part was and is a good solid motor. The only issue I had was having to replace exhaust manifold gaskets on both sides.

I now have a 2020 F250 with the 7.3L gas motor paired with a 10 speed tranny.
I have 15,000 miles on it and pulled a 12000 lb 5th wheel about 5000 miles.

To me, both engines have the power to do the job they are asked to do. I do NOT like the 10 speed tranny.

We currently have a Ford V10 in our 1997 Four Winds with about 45,000 miles. It seems to have good torque off the line. Are considering buying a new motor home which would have either the Ford or GM V8 hence my question. Why don't you like the Ford 10 speed? Thank you

If youíre buying a class A, your choice is Ford or Ford. If youíre buying a class C, the 7.3 and the 6.0 arenít even in the same ballpark from a power standpoint. Plus the E450 chassis is much more capable than the Chevy class C.

The 7.3 installed in the MH chassis still has the 6 speed transmission.

My neighbor has this on an 2021 F53 Jayco and is happy so far. He had a 2002 E450 C class with the V10 which he had no issues with.

I am very happy with the 7.3L & 6 speed combo. Great package. I am glad they didn't put the 10 speed in the new F53 chassis.

While I have the v10, I too am happy with the 6 speed and think it is a great transmission. If we stay gas, then Iím excited about the new v8 and especially the upgraded dash.

Also have a 6 speed V10. Great combo.

10 speeds are for soccer moms running around with empty trucks. Its all about saving gas.

Diesel pushers are running 6 and a few 7 speed transmissions.

I though I read somewhere that there was a mode in the 10 speed that mimics a 5 or 6speed. basically skips a gear when towing or hauling..

or this was someones pipe dream..

I can give you a good compare..

I own a 2021 Class B+ with the new Ford 7.3L V-8 and 6 speed transmission and a 2014 and 2017 Chevy 3500 van with the 6.0L V-8 and 6 speed transmission..

The Chevy van is just a van and the Class B+ weights 11,500 pounds.

The 6.0 would not do what the 7.3 does in my RV and I like the 6 speed in the Ford better than the Chevy because the Chevy transmission has a shudder problem and many complain about this, I think the Chevy 6.0 in a small Class C would labor hard while the Ford 7.3 does not labor even in the mountains.

I also own 5 other vans for my business and over the 20 years I have had better luck with the Ford vans over the Chevy vans, also had a few Dodge vans.

Even though the Chevy 6.0 V-8 and 6 speed is ok the Ford 7.3 V-8 and 6 speed is a far better motor/transmission from my perspective and owning both.

Hope this helps..
