Newbie ready to buy and would like your opinion

Hello everyone, been following for months and very serious right now. I am looking at a Triple E Regency, 2000, C24XL. I love the company, Canadian construction, 24ft, XL means heated and enclosed tanks and thermopane windows. generator, 130000 km on it. Asking $22900, but I am hoping for $19000-20000 certified. I know I could get cheaper but I love the company and the XL options.

We'll use it with two older kids to camp a little, but mainly for longer road trips in a few years when we retire. I have been doing a ton of research about how to look over a motorhome. I will scour over it, under it and try absolutely everything out. If I can get a pro to inspect it I will. Outside of that, any opinions and advice are more than welcome.

Looking forward to following this community as an owner! Thanks!

They are a nice looking rig. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Welcome to the forum. IT sounds like a good rig and if you can get it at your price all the better. Do get a certified inspection (you pay for it) done first.

You are joining a good group of folks here with good info to share. Read the various threads here and ask questions as they come up or add info if you can

Good luck and enjoy the adventure!

Not yet. One issue and everyones opinion is welcome. Rust! The steel box around the holding tank, which is the key to "enclosed and heated", is badly rusted and open. It would need the metal cut away and new metal welded in.

Any idea of the cost of that? I didn't see much other rust besides that. My budget demands a 15+ year old mh. Do I worry about rust or do I just get under there with a grinder, some Rust-Oleum and get it oil sprayed?

Thanks for your interest and again all thoughts welcome!

I am awaiting my 4th Tripple E coach. Ist I upsized from a 35 foot Commander (Workhorse gasser) to the ultimate Empress Elite but health stopped us from heading south and we downsized to a 32 foot Commander (workhorse chassis) but found it still too big to travel within the cities here in B.C. and Alberta, so we have ordered a 25 foot Wonder and are awaiting its delivery. I have now owned 3 Triple products and have walked through 100's of other manufacturers coaches - none of them are equal to a Triple E product. The only variable is the mechanics (Workhorse, Freightliner or Ford) under the coach so don't worry about the coach but the underpinnings.
Enjoy

Thanks. I was also looking at Fleetwood Tioga which has the heated tanks and nice big dinette for my 6 foot kids, but I really love the Triple Es, so thanks for the reaffirmation on that!

Well, it's the Ford e450, 6.8 Triton I believe. So, you're saying don't worry about rust, it can be dealt with so long as the engine and chassis are quality?

1st.. View the "tag" lines at the bottom of the responding posters..
To give you an Idea of where they are coming from and the equipment they have.

Keep in mind..
You Do Not Know......What You Do Not Know..

Your 1st coach is simply a learning tool..
When You tour/view "In Person" any perspective coach/5'er/or TT..
View it First with all slides retracted,
If the coach is fully usable without the slides extended, then give it a second look.
(Think wally-docking,rest areas,truckstops...any where that you cannot/do not have room for the slides to be extended OR during severe weather)

BUY USED! & buy one with everything you "think" you want and will need..
IF the perspective coach seems a bit small but still "DO-Able" .......REMEMBER!!!
What seemed small... becomes unbearably TINY after being Coop'd up" for a week or more due to weather...
(AKA.....Cabin Fever)
And.... You WILL make mistakes and have booboo's We all have.....(sometimes more than twice..)
Within a year or two you will discover..about the RV

What you love about the RV...
What you can kinda-sorta tolerate with the RV..
And what you absolutely hate about that !@#$%^%$#@! RV.
Then you can go get what you should have gotten in the first place..
Happy Hunting

Rust? That would be a problem with the chassis manufacturer. Get down and look under the unit.
Triple E makes the coaches.
Look at the back cushions in the dinette. Triple E makes them with a slight wedge = comfort. All other manufactures have a straight back cushion. Extremely uncomfortable after sitting for a period of time.
Just observations and experience from our first coach - a 30 foot Bigfoot with a rear garage. Kept blowing rear tires and we finally found out that it was 1800 lbs overweight -empty. We then moved on to the 35 foot Tripple E Commander and have never looked back - enjoyed them all butt our needs and health has changed.
Craw around underneath and look around. If not sure find someone who can help you.
It sounds like a good engine and chassis design - Like our 1999 Bigfoot.

Rust never sleeps and can hide.
Look for another unit.
I bought a Fleetwood Tioga out of Colorado this year no rust
well maintained and I am the third owner at 100,000 miles.
I have not found any quality defects in this 2006 model.
Good luck in your search, I had to fly across country to find the
model I wanted used at the price I wanted to pay.

This rust would be Triple Es issue. It's on the box they enclosed the waste tank in. It's not on the chassis, which looked ok and the engine compartment looked good.

That is a very nice MH however the price is too High.
IMHO I would need the price near $14,000.00
based on the AGE and MILES

1. You found rusted out areas.
2. I am sure it needs a LOT of service and
unless you are handy it will cost you big time.

Coolant Change
Transmission Service
Brake Flush
Brake job front and rear
Replace upper and lower hoses
Replace Spark Plugs.
Check exhaust manifolds they all crack

These are only a few of the common areas
that require attention and are costly to service.
Even if you are doing the work yourself parts could
still cost you $$ thousands $$ now double that cost
if you need to hire someone to do all of this work.

Time is on your side do not rush in.
I am sure they will tell you all of those items
have been taken care of already. When 10 years or 5 years ago????
That just means they are ALL due to be serviced AGAIN.
Proof of service and do not accept some home made looking receipt.

Thanks RELHUB, those things are definitely on my mind. I don't know if you are in Canada but cheaper MHs are rare here. But, my original plan was 15 years old, under 150000km, $15000 cdn., So I will be patient, and maybe rent this summer when Algonquin Park reopens. Thanks for the feedback!
