Newbie rving cross country

We finally got our class c, a Thor Fourwinds at 24 feet. I had wanted a diesel that drove better but we couldn't afford one. However at the planets to drive cross-country this summer. For me of an older female it's pretty scary. Setting up breaking down no problem but driving this dick vehicle that's the scary part. Friends are heading out to Grand Canyon from Florida so I made reservations for a few nights there to be at the same Campground. Also my daughter lives in st. Paul and trying to figure out a good route to meet her somewhere. I plan on doing frequent stops and won't go past 60 miles per gallon or 65. Any suggestions for this trip. Dreaming of this for years but scared with the boxy camper dh was willing to purchase with me. He can't go with me either as I am off from my teaching job this summer and he has to work. It took me 4 years to convince him we'd love rving so I didn't push a more expensive or used rig. [I wanted a good used rig...he didnt.] So driving it....[emoji33] thank you!

You didn't say New or used. If new or used I would have the alignment checked, under $200, research on here for info. If new or old check tires for pressure cold, if older check tire date for 6-7 year old tires replace. Check batteries before and every two weeks, if old clean posts before trip. It won't take long and the driving will become second nature just check mirrors unroll you get used to where you need to be in a lane. Read the manual on all the coach equipment and play with it all. Read the manual on the chassis and again familiarise your self on all installed equipment. Don't be afraid to manually down shift going down hill to hold speed, the tack will tell you the max RPM. Sounds daunting but get to g used to ALL all systems before not when needed makes the trip run smooth. If you don't have one yet a good RV GPS, and again read the manual and getting used to options is a must. Things like lane assist and voice control so you can query, like next rest stop become important.
Now have fun, you have time to learn before the trip.

You implied that this is a new Thor. I would do some camping in it, even if it's only in your driveway, and take it on some short trips. This will help you get used to it and find out any glitches it may have in it. Almost all new MHs have some kind of glitches.

For your trip just take it slow and stop when you need to. Going 60-65 is a good idea. You will quickly develop a feel for it. The learning curve is pretty short.

It's hard to make suggestion for stops along the way. You didn't mention where you are starting from.

Happy Trails!!!

You might try the 2-2-2 rule to start or modification of this.

Keep you drive to 200 miles max a day (we use 300 but really try to keep it under 250

Try to be at camp by 2pm as you will have a bigger selection of sites many times and more important some time to relax in the after noon. (we use the 3 pm max)

Stay at least two days or more at each site so you do get some time to relax and enjoy the trip

You might find some common thoughts and take heart from Crazy Lady's journey a little while ago:
