Rain vs Furnace

Every time it rains, whether I’m driving or sitting still, my furnace won’t fire. The fan purge doesn’t even spin.

My question: what would happen if i sprayed the circuit board with WD-40? Would this damage or short out the board? I believe this board attracts moisture and I’d like to stop the moisture build up.

Thank you in advance.

I doubt it's a circuit board--they are not typically affected by humidity. I would check wire connections being tight (unplugging and replugging simple one line slip on connectors) and also look for leaks in the area of the furnace, control board and thermostat.

Furnace Fault

WD40 is made from fish oil. It evaporates with time. The propellant is a volatile solvent. Check manufactures specifications. Different oils and solvents may dissolve coatings and components on circuit boards.

There should be no water from outside on the circuit board. If so, clean it up and seal the leaks.

As suggested above, corrosion and vibration are the usual suspects. Since the fan won't spin that narrows it down a little. Maybe Old Biscuit will give detailed trouble shooting instructions. Possibly it is the thermostat or thermostat wire connections.

I wish you good luck and happy trails ahead!

DO NOT spray it with WD40.

Atwood has an on-going issue with some model circuit boards getting wet
They have a 'relocation' kit that raises circuit board up off bottom of casing

Call Dometic and inquire....800-366-3842

Agree on no WD 40. It’s is ok for wire insulation preservation but not contacts or exposed circuits.

However, to test your theory, you can hit the board (and whatever else) with a hair dryer. Set the level to low but as much fan speed as possible. I’d also check contacts, carefully disassembling them, clean and retighten.

Testing will be the issue - like when it rains?

I removed the circuit board and found some dirt on the back. the dirt was getting damp and shorting out the board. i could just use a toothbrush to remove the dirt. i sealed some gaps on the back wall.

Now, i am considering using Rustoleum spray-on leak sealer to the back of the board. Just a thin coat would suffice, i believe.

What do my RV friends think?
