Recall on my motorhomes brake line

Hi, I'm new here and this is my first post. I am looking for help to find out where I can take my 25 foot class c motorhome for service on the chassis. I received a recall notice with an issue on the brakeline and it says to take to my dealer. Well, it's a Chevy and the Chevy dealer near me won't work on it. I am in the Toledo area so if anyone knows where I can take it, I would love to hear from you.

Thanks
MC

I would start with GM Customer care, 1 (800) 462-8782

If they seem unwilling to help, mention your considering filing a complaint
with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

If no action, go to NHTSA.gov and file a compliant.

Welcome to the forum. I like Paul D's suggestion. However, I'll give you another number which is Chevrolet-specific that they give to call for help on their recall notices: (800) 222-1020

Check your recall notice to see if that number is listed and if it's not, call the number that IS given. What is the recall ID number?

They will give you the location of a service center that will accommodate a motorhome. Most likely, it will be one of their commercial truck dealers as they have lifts and equipment to work on heavy-duty vehicles. One such dealer is Yark Chevy in Perrysburg. It's about 15 miles from Toledo.

Yark Chevrolet (567) 368-7115 <----- tap/click

In fact, you might even call them first to see if can accommodate you.

I really don't think you'll have to go to the point of contacting the NHTSA but if you do, the number to call first at NHTSA (MOD EDIT) that they give for recalls is (888) 327-4236 which is their Vehicle Safety Hotline.

Does the dealer services medium and heavy duty GM trucks? Or just cars and light trucks?

If the brake line replacement requires a lift. A car and light truck GM dealer won’t have a lift it will fit on.

So as we're discussing, you'll need to look for a Chevy dealer who sells and services heavy duty commercial trucks. I've found the webpage for that so we can add a few more dealers to at least call and check to see if they have the facilities (heavy duty lifts, clearance room, proper tools/equipment, etc.) to perform the recall repair.

Go to THIS PAGE, click/tap "Find a Dealer"

I inserted "Toledo OH" and it returned this page with a list and map of Chevy commercial truck dealers near Toledo:

Chevrolet Commercial Truck Dealers near Toledo

So in addition to Yark Chevrolet that I mentioned previously, it returned these additional dealers that you might want to call and see if they do have the facilities and the equipment to service your recall:

Dunn Chevrolet - Oregon Ohio (866) 594-2137

Dave White Chevrolet, LLC - Sylvania Ohio (419) 885-4444

Baumann Chevrolet - Genoa Ohio (877) 363-2832

Allen Chevrolet - Monroe Michigan (734) 242- 4200

Again, I'm not sure if any of these dealers can perform the recall but they are the ones listed as Chevrolet commercial truck dealers. If Chevrolet corporate can't give you a specific dealer to take it to, you can at least call the ones listed above to see if they can do it.

Brake line recall Sunseekerr with Chevy front end

We are having a huge problem getting any Chevy dealer to look at our Chevy 4500 Sunseeker brake line recall. We made an appointment with New Smyrna Beach dealer and was told oh yes, they can do it. We were there nearly 3 hours and the motorhome was never moved. Then told we can't do it. Called about 3 other dealers, no help. We're in Central Florida just north of Orlando. Kind of odd that a vacation destination has no one to work on this recall item! Anyone know who could do the work near Orlando area?

Welcome to the forum.

In the Orlando area, I'd try calling either Starling Chevrolet or Carl Black. Again, they sell Chevrolet work/commercial trucks and "should" have the facilities and equipment to service heavier trucks. The Chevy dealers designated as "Business Elite" should have the facilities but call first and confirm for sure that they can do your recall.

Starling Chevrolet - Business Elite Work Truck - (407) 606-7282 <---click/tap

Carl Black - Business Elite Work Truck - (407) 337-7953 <---click/tap

Good luck. If you should strike out, be sure to call that number given in my previous post -- (800) 222-1020 which is the Chevrolet-specific number for recalls.

Edited to add: was Jon Hall in Daytona Beach one of the dealers you called that said they couldn't do it? (Jon Hall Chevrolet Business Elite)

Keep in mind for a repair service to work on an RV, pretty much any class RV, it has to fit into a service bay and the service bay needs to be out fitted to support the RV size and weight. Most neighborhood car and light truck dealers are not set up to support our rigs so you need to look for the medium and heavy commercial truck service providers.

Right, and that's why all my suggestions I've been making in this thread are all Chevrolet "Business Elite" dealerships that are specifically designated for selling and servicing commercial work trucks. They most likely will be the dealerships that will have the facilities and the equipment to service larger trucks and should be able handle 5500 box trucks, cutaways, etc., etc. Those Chevy dealerships are the ones most likely to be able to handle a Class C motorhome.

One of the questions your dealer won't offer is where to get $150k RV you just bought serviced. Had a heck of a time getting my now sold Ford F53 serviced. Ended up taking it to a commercial truck center for general service. Luckily I never had a Ford warranty/recall issue in the 8 years I owned it.

Fast forward to now a local ford dealer built a new service shop to work on the bigger trucks and RV's.

Some great recommendations on how to proceed .
The advice to contact GM Customer Service and the direct Chevrolet Recall number is spot on .

Now to get their attention , first thing to ask for is the name of the person you are talking to and their job title .

Then explain the recall notice you received and your difficulty in finding a Chevy dealer to do the work .

Let them respond to your question .

Follow up with notifying them this is a Life Safety issue and it is unacceptable to not be able to find a dealer to do the recall , since lives are potentially
in danger . Remind them it's not the heater that's not working , but its the primary system that stops the vehicle .

Let them know at the end of the conversation that if during your search for help , an accident were to occur you will be providing your attorney and the Courts the names of the GM individuals that provided no assistance or guidance on resolving the Life Safety Issue .

Life Safety should trigger a response .

Corporations hate risk and liability .

Good luck and please let us know how things work out .

Chevy motorhome brake recall

I called the number for Chevy that was in the recall letter. They gave me dealer names that sell and service heavy duty trucks near me. Ends up they didn't pull it into the building, but went under the motorhome out in the lot. Mine passed inspection, so we're good to go. Now even though this dealer works on these units, they would not take the front two wheels off to spin balance them, so I can't figure them out regarding that, either!?

Josam Truck & Alignment (407-438-7020) can help with that...good place to get a four-corner weight as well. Berry Hampton - Manager, straight shooter. 8849 Exchange Dr. Orlando, FL. 32808. No affiliation.
