rv shade replacement/repair

has anyone replaced their rv window shades with house window shades. re-stringing existing rv shade is an option, but the string doesn't last and breaks every 2/3 yrs

we replaced all of the pleated shades in our 2009 RV about three years ago. There was a vendor at the Tampa RV show. We went with the manual type day/night shades. There are several shade suppliers on,line. Just Google slow-rise RV shades and several will show up.
The toughest part for our replacement was mounting the brackets behind the cabinetry for the new roller shades. It's a DIY project but check your work acess area to make sure you can get the old shades off and get to the area to install the brackets. Good luck.

i CANNOT IMAGINE THE noise/ RATTLE OF REGULAR BLINDS? Amazed factory installed one at our kitchen, but listed in original spec. NOISE/ rattles is #1 complaint on Class-C/ Class-A?

Instead of the cotton string consider using fishing line.
Or dacron kite line.

50 years ago I watched my mother used unwaxed white dental floss instead of thread to sew buttons back on my dad's white dress shirts. After the repair the button would break before the "thread" broke.

Same idea.

Re: strings breaking often - when you replace them, do you also replace the little plastic grommets/doughnuts that the strings slide through on the horizontal boards? They wear through and the corner cuts the string if they're not replaced.

So that the project to re-string lasts longer than 2-3 years, replace the grommets the string goes through and tighten them just enough to work properly. Over tightening isn't good, sometimes I've needed 2 or 3 attempts to get the tension just right

When operating the shades, use two hands and evenly pull them down or raise them.

These do require a little TLC when operating

Replacing this type of shade is a popular topic of interest so you're not alone.

I replaced all my OEM pleated shades with vinyl mini-blinds from

Been a year in Florida sun so far w/ no degradation. Will I need to replace in 5 years years? Most likely...but now that the brackets are up it is a 60 second process to replace.

As far as "noise of the blinds" while in transit, well they are vinyl and just blend into the background of all the other noises being made while in transit.
