Is it possible to tow a Honda scooter behind the class c ? The scooter only weighs a couple hundred lbs. I'm thinking I could use a carrier with ramp. Any thoughts?

That weight should be within the load limits of your hitch. Look at your manual and see, most are in the 300# area.

So I'm thinking your statement "use a carrier with ramp" means you would load the scooter on a platform attached to the trailer hitch mounted on the back of the coach. It would be very similar to a carrier mounted on the back of a handicap vehicle. If so you would have no issues provided you stay within the loading weights of the hitch. It probably is rated at 500 pounds tongue weight and 5,000 pounds towing weight. The tongue weight is the key here so if it is rated at 500 pounds then a 200 pound scooter on a 50 pound carrier would be well within the weight limits. The other consideration is overall loading of the coach. Adding the scooter to the back adds weight to the rear axle. Check your load by weighing the coach after loading it for traveling and see if you would overload the rear axle in your loading configuration. You may need to move other things forward to compensate but it can be done.

If you plan on towing the scooter on a small trailer I'm sure there would no issues at all.

Yes, I am referring to a platform connected to hitch. I want to keep it as simple as possible. I am a senior that will be solo. I haven't purchased yet, but going with a small c, thinking 25 or less.

There are two types of "weight":
1) Dead/Static weight and
2) Live/Dynamic weight.

A 250# Dead weight can easily be elevated to a 750# Live weight by hitting a bump that imparts a 3G shock upon that weight.

In addition to weight, there is "Torque" to consider. Torque is calculated by multiplying the weight times the length of the lever bar into the hitch receiver.

The weight rating of a hitch is usually indicates how much Dead weight the hitch will support from the receiver cross bar or with a short ball mount inserted into a receiver.

If you mount a 50# platform with a 200# scooter on it and the scooter is cantilevered out 3 feet beyond the hitch receiver, that 250# load now becomes 750 #/' (pound/feet) of torque upon the receiver cross bar.

You might be OK or... I would find a QUALITY place that installs trailer hitches and see what they say. They might suggest that you beef up your stock hitch receiver.

I just returned from a month long trip to Eastern Canada and the New England states. While in Acadia National Park, I talked with a fellow who had a carrier that sounds similar to what you are looking for. He had a 600cc dirt bike on it. What was interesting was the way it worked. The channel lowered all the way to the ground. You then just walked the bike onto the channel and strapped it down. Then, it used a simple bottle jack to push on an extrusion which raised the channel up to the height of the bumper. I think it was called "maxi" something or other and it looked to be perfect for what you are looking for. I, too, am going to use a scooter (650cc Suzuki Burgman) as a toad. If I can find out any more, I will post to this site....
