Smile Shroud for AC

Hi,

Ohh boy, recently I posted and introduced myself with a 1978 RV here and ohh boy, first thing I do is take the thing and I see ANTS!!! What a disaster so I started to rebuild the front bunk bed. I can post pictures if anyone is interested.

Now, I got also a NASTY leak from the antenna and AC. The cover or ac shroud is trash, broken, has many holes.

Here is my question, rather then spending $150 on a new one which I probably won't find that matched and I'm low on $$$ with the ANTS disaster, can I put a plastic tub (like a storage tub), attach it with screws and seal it. Of course, making changes to the tub so that air flow isn't restricted.

Any one know if that's possible ?? or does the thing get so HOT that it will melt the plastic ??

Thank you in advance for an answer and kind suggestions

I would check my local salvage yards first. They might have an RV out there with good AC shrouds they would sell cheap. If not here is an RV salvage yard.

Well I think you may want to set the priority of the repairs in line. First question that comes to mind is what kind of ants? From the sound of your post they may have done some wood damage or they may have moved into the wood voids caused by water damage.
The first thing I would do is fix all leaks and then assess the damage that the water has caused. Water inside the RV can destroy it well past the point that it would be cost effective to repair.
Not knowing the total scope of the damage I cant really tell you much more.

Check with your local RV dealer, I haven't run across one yet that didn't have their own supply of "good used" parts kicking around.

They often need bits like that for trade-ins and such.
