Slide out Covers do not close completely

2015 Jayco Melbourne - newly acquired - the slide out covers do not close completely - there is about 5 inches of fabric cover exposed? It doesn't seem logical that is the way there are suppose to be ? how to correct ?

It's the same way on our Class A. When closed, there is about 5" of exposed fabric between the roof line and the topper enclosure.

Was roof replaced? If so, covers probably removed and not properly wound/ rewound? My rig was 17-yo when I bought, found awning not properly rewound/tensioned when roof replaced and (when floor replaced) barrel chair was mounted backwards on swivel base w/ seatbelt to little 1/4" bolts on slide-track mount vs 3/4" bolts for seatbelt on swivel FRAME; most other issues also had poor repair procedures related issues. Carefree awning/ or slide awning online you can download instructions/ winding chart.
